I'm sure many of you have already done this, but last night I started my car up and let it idle until the valve in the right exhaust pipe opened up. once it did, I unplugged the sensor connected to that pipe under the car, so now the valve is permanently open. this has made it sound a bit louder on startup as the value is open instead of closed. super easy mod that I would recommend for anyone wanting a bit more sound on startup.

Interesting. So is this basically like having the "sport mode" exhaust level but in every setting (comfort, etc)?

I think it just makes it louder on startup. as for the sound of the exhaust in the different driving modes I think that is mainly controlled by the active sound. however I'm sure someone else on this forum may know more about this than I do.

I was under the impression that the louder exhaust on cold starts on BMW turbo engines was the waste-gate bypassing the turbo to lite off the catalytic converter in order to reduce cold start emissions.

So the OEM exhaust isn't valved? I have the MPPSK on my 340 and its valved, guess I assumed the stock system was too on the m-sport models.

yes it is valved. that's why I unplugged the sensor under the car in order to keep the valve open all the time.

One value is open and one valve is closed during startup. Depending on your climate, this is very easy to see when the temps are cooler. You'll see water vapor only coming from one pipe.

The OP now has both valves opened, which results in both valves being opened along with a louder startup exhaust sound.

A lot of people have referred to this as a golf tee mod.

Actually if your tuned, the code does show as your tuner will pick up ghost codes to show you what BMW will see. BMW is able to see this code but you won't with a regular OBD2 reader. Honestly not worth it just for a louder start up. You never know if they would want to give you at hard time when taking your car in for service.

I've done this same mod on at least my last 4 bimmers and I've never had any issues (knock on wood).

This can show you what you're looking for as well as a $500 option to make it better.

In this video it shows stock vavle on the g80 not opening all the way but once you slap the new controller on it's wide open.

it's right under the car by the right exhaust tip. if you look under the car I think you will see it. I'll try to post a pic of it this weekend. super easy to unplug. I also zip tied it to the metal bracket to make sure the sensor doesn't flop around.

I only saw a flap inside the right exhaust pipe. but if it does have two I would unplug them both if possible! lol

It's only one valve, passenger side. I just unplugged mine today

A better alternative would be to pull this fuse (F203) in the rear junction box (near the RH tail lamp under a carpet cover).

It only supplies the exhaust flap actuator. I've seen too many of those exhaust flap connectors corrode like crazy if they're exposed to water, so you'll be replacing the actuator and connector pins if you change your mind (or install the MPE later on).

Same thing? Run car, open flap, pull fuse while it's running?

I think they have fuse switch bypass adapters so you can just add a switch and turn that fuse on off

Yep! Same procedure. It's easy enough to verify it's position afterwards by looking into the RH exhaust pipe.
