The move to EPS was to aid fuel economy and now dovetails with all the new driving/parking features. The fact is Americans have always preferred overboosted steering and probably in other countries as well.

The electric steering in my 2016 (non-competition) M3 was HORRIBLE. Just simply dreadful. Just one model year later, I found that the steering in the M2 was dramatically better, so I bought one! Having recently purchased an e36 M3, I can say that it is more communicative. But less weighty. e36 / F87 ... 2 different technologies, but both fairly effective. The sweet spot does seem to be the M2CS, and I'm holding out hope that BMW puts those lessons learned into the G87! Last edited by M2PDX; 01-08-2022 at 10:29 AM.. |

It's a shame. That along with size creep. From E36 to E46, to E9x coupes, to the 1 series (perhaps the epitome of a great driver), to the F22 and now the G series. There's no manufacturer that is pushing BMW to excel in this class. |
