New M240i spontaneous purchase
Today I drove the wife's X3m40 into BMW for its first scheduled service. While waiting, on the floor was a brand new M240i. The car had been ordered since September last year and built for a customer that cancelled the day prior to taking delivery.
I traded a Mini JCW. I could not be happier! Here is some pictures. The car was purchased as is. |

Can't seem to see pictures. I sort of did the same. Found car in inventory that was 100% the build I wanted and with trade in values being what they are I got a nice surprise on my old car which made it spontaneously worth it to buy. This car is everything that my old E46 M3 was and then some.
Enjoy! |

Thank you guys.
My previous ride was a Mini JCW. Prior to that was a F80 M3CS and prior to that a F80 M3 competition. I found the M3's for me lacked good traction. I considered M2's however I found them also a similar problem. Especially when driving in conditions of rain or not ideal. The Mini was a heap of fun however I could never get great off the line traction. It was a great in between car until I found the right choice. So far this M240i is perfect! It just does everything so well. It's not as aggressive on the ride as either of my M3 cars however it's still very planted with a better ride. Performance is very similar. The finish so good. I would be tempted to look at a new M2 if it were to have xDrive. However the M2 has a high benchmark now to beat. As well as the value proposition. I'd be thinking the price would be at least 20-40k more. That would not interest me. Anyone considering a new M240i should just do it. A great car! |

That was the same calculus I did. Well equipped m240i with as much power as can be practically used in the m240i vs M2. xDrive plus probably another $15-20k for M2 plus dealership mark up in year 1, if you can get an allocation even. No fun to be had this summer waiting for one.
0-60 with XDrive may be faster than a RWD M2 with another 50hp in most typical road conditions anyway. As for lack of manual, I for one can't row the gears fast enough to keep pace with the Automatic in 1-3rd gear how quickly this thing runs through the gears. |
