RWD / AWD drivetrain choice
Seems a lot of folks are anti AWD, yet I'm seeing increased interest on the forum from enthusiasts such as myself who would like to see an AWD option.
It's available on the M240i as well as RWD and AWD/RWD are both options on the M3 and M4, yet the M2 is projected to be the odd one out. Given that the technology must be there, we should be given the choice. Let's see what the forum thinks. If AWD was an option, which would you choose? |

I would choose RWD, but I still want to see an AWD option. The more people that can get into a G87 the better IMO. It's no different than offering MT or AT IMO. Give the people what they want.

If so, the M2 being a lower state of tune, could it take the manual in AWD form? I could open up the poll to the four options of drivetrain and transmission but that a whole other debate. |

I'm not in the market for this car at all. But, I don't really understand the perspective of the people who want RWD that don't even want BMW to offer an AWD variant for people who want AWD?
I don't think anyone on the AWD 'side' is saying they want it to ONLY be AWD. Just give the option and let the buyer choose whether they want xdrive or not. Similar to the choice of 6MT vs DCT/ZF8. There's not a wrong answer and people will have different needs/wants. |

The G87 would have been engineered with both RWD and AWD from the get go if BMW was going to offer AWD.ynguldyn already posted that the M2 would be RWD only.AWD is never going to happen for the G87 IMO.I wouldn’t want AWD anyway. It would just add more weight. This car should be as light and nimble as possible.

Don't rally care about the MT. But X-Drive should be an option. I will have it WITH X-Drive, but I will also have a RWD one if X is not available.

Personally, I say save AWD for the M3/4 and up... this car is already heavy enough.

I'm one of the guys that wants this car to be RWD only. Why?
Well I want it to be different than every other M car in the lineup. But more importantly, the rarity of it. I think having it RWD only will weed out a lot of potential clients thus making it a bit more rare to see. I'm also that weirdo that thinks sports cars should be RWD. The M3 has always been a luxury sports car that was above all, a pleasure to drive. Entry level luxury (since its a 3 series) but always been a drivers car. To me, it's always been a RWD, manual car. A car which you can toss into a corner and drift out of or line up and shoot out of with the correct amount of throttle. You also can take it out to dinner and it feels comfortable in a nice restaurant. But it always has to be a drivers car.
Can't get that with an automatic transmission nor AWD. And since the 2 is the new 3, my M2 will always be a RWD manual sports car. If I want a numb AWD car there are other options, this isn't it.

Hate to say it, but it's boring. If it were DCT I'd have a different opinion.

This car was never going to be limited like the 1M was. Even the F87 with its low volume depreciated quite a bit before inflation turned things around. Once things get back to normal you'll see their prices drop quite a bit.

I would not consider AWD in an M2. I don't need a small car weighing as much or more than my M340i. Desire for M2 weighs heavily on the curb weight. Anything in the ballpark of the 240 XI specs and I'm out. Rather get another RWD M340i instead. To each their own...

Will be going RWD w MT, love the feeling of throwing the car sideways and getting the big grin on my face while shifting gears. I'm more for the enjoyment of the drive now anyways. Lighter weight helps with the decision as well. From a performance standpoint AWD paired w Auto is incredible but then I would just get bored.....

I don't understand the point of this poll if it's been literally confirmed an AWD variant is not coming for the G87...
