I feel engine shaking/vibrating when idling ??
I have a new 230i just 500 miles. Sometimes when i stop at red light i feel engine shaking through my seat, and i can feel it pump up and down in my butt. It happens even when i drive more than 30 mins, and i stop with engine still working, even passengers can feel it.
Im always start engine before at lease 3-15 mins since i got a car However, sometimes when i stop idling it feels nothing, very quiet, no shaking, nothing ... Like my last C300. So i wonder Is that shaking normal or not on BMW ? ![]() Last edited by Cklam1209; 06-19-2022 at 04:58 AM.. |

It’s not normal. You have a warranty, take it to the dealer and hope they can reproduce it.

My new (May 31) 230i doesn't do that.
Mostly I use Sport mode which disables the auto stop/start feature. I tried Eco mode the other day with auto stop/start active and the engine started up with a bit of a shake. But it was short lived. There is a button just in front of the engine start/stop button to disable the engine auto stop/start feature. Disable that feature and see if that's what you are feeling. CTGT2005 may be on to something regarding gasoline. Be sure you fill up with the right octane of gasoline. Buy from a busy station to ensure you get the freshest gasoline. Try another brand, a name brand. Shell is good. I'd use it here where I live but all the Shell stations have 91 V-Power around a $1 more per gallon that 91 at other stations. Insane. But thankfully the 230i is quite happy with the 91 (ethanol free) I get at a Littlefield Express gas station or 91 (E10) I get at Casey's or the occasional fill up at a Philips 66 station. My M-B cargo van engine likes the same gasoline as did my previous Dodge Challenger Scat Pack engine and my Hellcat's engine before the Scat Pack. |

I have 4,000 miles on my 230i and have fueled it with nothing but top-tier 93 or better however, I have experienced what you are describing.
Even with stop-start deactivated, every once in a while, when idling or at a traffic light, the engine stutters like it is misfiring. It does not do it consistently: most days the engine does not stutter, sometimes it will "misfire" a few times in a row, even when the engine is warm. One time the car stalled on me when it was cold and I was moving it for the first time that day. I have not had the car to the dealer for diagnostics as I don't think they'll be able to reproduce the issue. It's not consistent and does not happen very often. The onboard computers have not reported any issues. if anything more comes of it I'll make another post. |
