18" wheels with M240? concerned about 19"/RFT combo
the 19 inch wheels seem to be pretty low profile and looks to be the only option. Concerned with them especially how expensive they are.
is anyone going to get wheel and tire insurance? it seems pricey for what it is. Maybe I don't need it if I get non-RFT tires? I was thinking worst case scenario I can try and find a 18 inch wheel set from the 3-series or 230 if they fit. I know the old 240 wheels won't fit since they are 5x120 instead of 5x112. I'm in NJ and the roads aren't that bad since I am not in a city but there are some bumps |

I think you'l be fine. We have some bad roads in MI and I've been driving daily on 19's for 3 years on my 340i with no issues. I have 20's on my Boxster, again no issues. I never purchase the tire/wheel insurance on my cars/bikes and have been fortunate so far. Although I do hear that some folks just "happen" to get flats/damage right around the time the tires are worn, coincidental timing I'm sure.

I would worry a lot more about the RFTs than the size. The OEM Pirelli RFTs that came on my F22 230i were horrible. The sidewalls would fall apart if you even glanced at a pothole. Haven’t had a problem since I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

I'm not sure what tires are coming as the A/S choice on the 240, but I'm planning to put Pilot 4S's on mine for summer. I replaced the P-Zero's on my Boxster with 4S's and it made a noticeable difference.

I had to change three of them over three years. And I only ran them in the winter, as I was able to run my summer wheelset from my old E90 3 series on it. I had tire insurance, but it's kind of a PITA to deal with. I think I'll skip it for the G42 on order, and take my chances. I'm going for the high perf. package with the 245/255 staggered set up. From what I could make out on the preproduction car photos, they may be the Michelin PS 4S's, which would be great. But who knows what they might actually end up as. I wish BMW could be more specific with the tire choices, but this is the downside to being a new model early adopter! This choice necessitates a 2nd winter set for me, but I've always liked having separate seasonal tires. The changeover has become a Thanksgiving/ April Fool's ritual for me. Probably Blizzaks on 18" wheels. The X-drive performs great in snow on dedicated winter tires. Now all I (we!) need is to take delivery! I was build week 41 and my CA said production complete on 11/4. (The build tracker app has been stuck on production begins for 4 weeks, useless). I'm hoping for a nice Christmas/Hanukah/Birthday present in December!

I think so. 18" wheels come up on the price sheet/spec guide. And, the car is based on the G30 platform which allows 18" wheels.
Not 100% sure with Msport brakes, l I'll find out before I commit.

I know the G20 M340i had an 18" wheel option, not many people selected it but it was there

I have the winter tires/wheels from my F30, does anyone know if the G42 uses the same bolt pattern?

Did you ever find out if the 18” wheels would work with the M Performance brakes from the ZTK package? Thanks

Yes they do. See specifics on my other post.
BTW: I put Burger 13mm spacers on the ZTK wheels and they look great.

I'm just curious as to why you would like to go 18"? If you're concerned about sidewall on 19's you shouldn't be. I just put my new wheels on, 19's and went a 245/40 on the front, plenty of sidewall for the roads in the USA.
Also for future people that may read this, 19x8.5 +25mm front, 19x9.5 +35mm rear No spacers,no rubbing 245/40 265/35 tires |

Good to know you can run 18s even with the ZTK package. I'd like to run a set of 18s square for winter driving rather than staggered 19s.

Was looking at 18" wheels also, mainly for the track. It's much cheaper to have a square set of 18" than staggered 19" considering how quick I'd be going through tires. My concern is the handling will be off then.
Btw, Audi wheels are also 5x112, with center bore 66.6. that opens up a world of options |
