Door Length
Hi,
I am thinking about getting a G42 M240i and I wanted to know how long the doors are when they are closed and when they are fully open. If you can help me out that would be great. I know Coupé normally have longer doors. |

I imagine F44 maybe wants to make sure that the doors aren't too wide for the garage he intends to park this in?
I'd help but I clearly don't have one (or even an allocation!) to check for you. |

OP - are you asking the question you want the answer to?
Near as I can tell, the doors on most cars are exactly the same open as they are closed. Don't no of any that get longer or shorter when you open or close it. |

Hang on, F44 you still have a point. If the door doesn't open up a full 90 degrees, it's going to be "shorter" than the actual length of the door (54"). If it does, then you have your answer.
Just need someone to open their door up fully and run a tape measure from the door sill to the edge of the door. |

That's true! It sounds like that's what he meant to ask, so that he could make sure the bay was wide enough to not tag the door edge off the wall.
There's always the pool noodle trick if it's close. |

Don't forget that your door has probably 3 "stops" as it opens. The first is too narrow to get out of easily, but the third is usually overkill. The second is usually fine for getting out, and reduces the width you need quite a bit.

Good point, my distance from hard/garage shelf edge and body of car when i park and exit is generally from 26-30 inches depending upon exactly where i position the car. I park could further over but that is all the room i need to get out. And i did pad that shelf edge just in case.
