I have this:
https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...ds&pickup=true

Love it. You have the option to run pods, but I do ground single serve in most cases unless the wife is up at the same time. It makes perfect ice coffee.

You have to really hate coffee to find pods acceptable. They don't hold nearly enough grounds for a full cup, brew too hot, brews through plastic, etc. Everything that ruins the taste of coffee.

But he likes instant...

I'd bet pods would be fine. My wife got me into coffee and we use a breville that can brew from a cup to 80 ounces, we brew 40 a day and each take half.

We like (in no particular order):
Black rifle coffee
Jittery Joes
Columbe

We also have a subscription to Atlas coffee and get a bag a month from various countries, they have never disappointed, I would highly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of coffee.

Ocassionally buy grocery store stuff to get us by.

We have a Keurig at our vacation home and use Chock full o nuts manhattan blend. It's the most coffee tasting coffee you can get out of a Keurig in my opinion. It's acceptable but not great by any stretch.

I like instant, because that's what I've always had, when I first had fresh brewed, I did like it and at a friends house sure and like I said Starbucks,
so I like instant or fresh brewed
But I can't seem to get a pod/kcup I like. they all come in multiples,
so I don't know if its the "mechanism" that makes it rank or the coffee in the pods itself

but I can do fresh ground or instant

I don't mind buying something, but dont wanna end up with an eleflump in the room

A long time ago (about 350 moons ago) way before the Pods and the $5K machine...

While out camping, I used to use Folger Instant Coffee in a bag. Best instant ever, and amazingly, it still around.

I love the Chemex, give me a kettle, a scale and a robust bean and I am good. I wanted to like the French Press but it’s simply too lean for my taste. Doesn’t anyone have time to brew coffee rather than hit a button? The only thing I use a Keurig for is Chia tea when I want something light.

Step up your game and start roasting beans at home. Nothing compares to this.

I drink instant coffee , two spoons coffee along with 1.5 spoon white sugar . I drink fat free light cow milk thus it enhances its taste as well .
Decaf is fine too , I don't like Nescafe at at all . Cold Brew is too hard to my taste as well . As for the filter coffee it depends . I don't like it as much as do instant coffee. Well, I prefer Davidoff mostly

As said before, the pods just don't have enough coffee for a good cup. Maybe a 5-6oz cup but not anything above.

This is the coffee maker we have, as I said, it can brew any size which is super sweet because we don't need an entire pot. The thermal carafe keeps it hot for several hours too. it can also set up for something like a v60 and pour straight to pot or cup if you desire.

https://www.amazon.com/Breville-BDC4...ps%2C86&sr=8-4

You'll need a good burr grinder if you're going to grind beans, this is what we have, it's on the cheaper side but reviewed well so we went with it:

https://www.amazon.com/Baratza-Encor...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

You could stick to ground, which is fine, even if the snobs say otherwise.

There are combo grinders/brewers but I don't know anything about them.

I drink two beer mugs full of coffee before I leave the house, so a Keurig doesn't makes sense to me. I get a 5 shot latte at Starbucks on the way to work. We have a Keurig in the office. On the rare occasion I feel like yet another cup of coffee, I use the Dark Magic. The Cafe Bustelo Tommy mentioned is also good. I like my coffee strong!

When I was a kid, before my parents bought a house, our landlord had a coffee shop. She would roast and grind the beans in the store. There were these huge roasters and bins and bins of coffee beans from all over the world. This was back in the late '60s. OMG, how I loved the smell of that place.

I wish I liked coffee, it seems like a really soothing ritual - but I'm a green tea guy.

I'm amazed at how many independent coffee shops thrive in our city just selling coffee… must be a very strong addiction, I mean passion .

If I were to drink coffee - I'd use this method, it looks awesome! Bialetti Express Moka Pot

Every Cuban in Miami has like 2 or 3 of these. Every single family member I can think of growing up made coffee in these. Of course Cuban coffee is mostly sugar so it probably tastes good no matter how you make the coffee.

Personally for drip coffee I like a regular old drip coffee maker. However I mostly drink espresso and I had a "fancy" manual espresso maker for a while and honestly I could never get the damn thing to make decent coffee and I found out pretty quickly I had no desire to learn the art of being a barista. I just wanted my damn espresso or cappuccino in the morning and I'm not super picky.

I ended up getting one of these like 2 years ago and I love it. Best coffee maker I've ever had. Put the beans in and forget about it.

I like it so much during prime day Seattle Coffee Gear had their more basic version of the same machine on sale for $300 (might have been pricing error) so I jumped all over that to have one for the house in NC. Just arrived today.

I don't drink coffee, but the better half does. I got tired of smelling whatever cheap shit she was brewing so I purchased her a bag of Blue Mountain Coffee grown in Jamaica.

She loves it, but feels bad spending ~$60 for a 1 lb bag of ground coffee.

I told her to quit acting like we both make minimum wage.

When I was a teenager me and a friend of mine used to go to a 24 hour Winchell's Donuts at night. We'd each order a coffee and then get free refills all night. Talk about a cheap way to get a buzz. lol

Like I said earlier in this thread, one cup a day now is all I need. Besides, too much coffee is not good for us old folks. At least not good for this old dude.

For under $1k, the answer, as always is.................

There are better machines but you'll pay at least twice as much, likely 3 times.

Pods make zero sense, expensive and inflexible.

If you don't want to pull a shot, i suggest a French Press over an italian stove top style moka pot. The coffee is stronger and deeper, moka's tend to create thin coffee. it's also crazy cheap and easy to use.

French press is kind of a pain, but does have good results.

I use a one-cup coffee maker, not a pod machine. I just bought a Chewbacca one-cup coffee maker. So chic

That's a very good price for a burr grinder and espresso machine all in one.
