Driver Restraint Malfunction

Hopped in the car yesterday and I get "Driver Restraint Malfunction" msg on the dash. I've tried shutting the car off completely. Pulling negative battery cable for 3 mins. Any other ideas what it could be that might be an easy fix to try? I have an appointment at BMW on Aug 4th to check it out, but A, I'd like to fix before hand if possible, and B, it's a 3 hour drive 1 way for me to go to the dealer, so any help or ideas is much appreciated. Hasn't been in any accident or fender bender. No bumps. Only mod was the carbon fiber steering trim and paddles but that was 3-4 weeks ago and I've driven it plenty since then. Of course I disconnected negative battery first. I can't think of what caused it other than something just plain failing.

Thanks again folks!

Thanks, pretty handy tool. But unfortunately I don't see anything that specifically lists my issue. I also connected a cheap OBD2 Bluetooth reader and downloaded a couple readers. All said there was not codes to report.

Siiiiigh. Lol

just browsing through reddit, not much of a solid answer. Could be wiring harness, could be the seat module. The most common answers seem to talk about either stuff somehow got wet or the wiring harness is malfunctioning/loose. You could check under the seat to see if you find any wires that appear loose or damaged.

This is what the warranty is for. Just take it to the dealer and make them figure it out.

If course I am going to do that, but as it's a 3 hour drive away, and they seem to always need the vehicles for multiple days to fix just about anything, I'd like to avoid if possible.

Now I'm getting "Parking Assistant Malfunction". Again, nothing obviously brought this on. 1700 miles on the car. Wondering what else will just stop working...

Well the assembly line stopped working as well if it's any consolation

Update**

Seatbelt was "failed" according to BMW. They ordered the part and replaced, all better. 😁
