Autocross Day
Had a great day out with the BMW Club of BC + Driving Unlimited. Just wanted to share some thoughts about the day.
I must have done 25-30 laps of this course they laid out. It was a blast! The car handles really well for stock. This is my second such event with the club (First with this car). My car does not have the enhanced braking & cooling pack, but it does have the 791M W/ Performance RFT (225/255 staggered). I noticed no fade in the brakes even after doing runs from 8:45 AM - 3:30 PM. This could be attributed to having ~15 minute spacing between each run. Brakes are amazing, there was a stopbox at the end of every lap (need to make a complete stop) and I didn't pass the threshold once. The tires were pretty good for the first few laps. After that, I really noticed them screaming any time I'd be pushing it. Body roll became pretty noticeable after I started pushing the car hard. Took a little bit to get used to it, but after a few laps I was able to really throw it into the corners at some decent speeds. X-Drive is amazing. I absolutely love being able to bring the rear around to correct oversteer when it occurred. I tried a couple laps using the paddles, but I found in sport+ with sport transmission mode, the auto was exactly where I needed it for each corner. A+++. After each lap I was absolutely buzzing. The combo of the B58 and stopbox at the end, the G forces were getting the blood pumping pretty good. The seats held me firmly in place and I didn't notice any physical fatigue, other than my right knee against the transmission tunnel. (My car does not have the knee cushion). A couple videos below for those interested! I'm not the best driver, but I feel that this definitely synchronized me a lot more with the car. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvA6df9v_Gw4gqFL7U_Xq-cqVVvgVw https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvA6df9v_Gw4gqFFaNCUXzTx3ArI3Q
