LED Garage Lights

Couldn't find a garage section in the forum so posting this here.

Anyone on here ever bought those multiprong LED lights that screw right into the light bulb socket? I have purchased two sets and both have crapped out after a few months. Here is the latest set from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The reviews on them were great but half the prongs light up now.

What are others doing for similar LED garage lights that actually work for a few years? If you have a specific brand and model to share that you like please do.

I've never seen those but I have pretty bright florescent tube lighting that works great.

We replaced all the fluorescent tubes in our retail stores with LED. We are now on our second refresh. The biggest thing to watch out for is the reduction in lumens over time, which can be quite alarming over a 5 year period when on all day every day. You need to work out the minimum lumens you are happy with and buy c. 40% in excess of that. Day 1 they will be super bright, but after 5 years, they will be broadly in line with your minimum lumens. We purchased in such volume that we brought them in from China by the container load manufactured to our spec using CREE components. I am not sure what the latest batch were, but LED in general has saved us a fortune in energy consumption, reactive re-lamping visits and costs vs fluorescent tubes.

Very true. I have LED throughout our house which is a shit ton of bulbs. They definitely lose lumens over time.

The ones I bought are really bright and it's super convenient to just screw them into your existing light bulb sockets. That was the appeal with that style.

I've never used those. I have these in my garage. They are real nice as they weigh nothing, easy to install with a couple of screwed and they can form any pattern you like.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In my basement I have these as it was an easy swap for the similar fluorescent ones that were already there.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No issues with either of them. However the ones in the garage interfere with my garage opener. If the lights are on the garage will not open with remote. Very odd, but they are always off when I'm not in the garage so not a huge deal. Not sure if they all do that or not.

As for being able to plug into exiting socket, they also sell outlet sockets that turn a socket into an outlet.

I have these, which are basically knockoffs of Cree LED strip light fixtures. I installed them over 2 years ago and they've been flawless. I would buy more to add to the garage but it looks like they changed the design slightly so I'm not sure they'd match.

Yep, I have them and they've been flawless for 4+ years. I'll look up the model of mine.

Just put up some of these from Costco. I like the motion sensor. We’ll see how long they last.

I have a few of these Suncos daisy chained in the garage, super bright.

I've tried the ones OP posted but they're horrible for anything but a back yard IMHO, too spotty.

I got some 4by LED replicas from home depot. Not cheap, like $70 each, but bright as hell. Replaced the two crap regular ceramic bases with those mounted to ceiling and then also replaced the lights for the garage door openers with plug-in hanging version. What I did was got one of those things that converts a bulb socket to a plug, so now I have 10,000 lumen panels (or so they claim) that light up when the garage door opens (or I have a button to manually turn them on.

Coupled with the LED strip I installed on my folding workbench (with a pressure switch so it comes on when I open it) I have 27,000 (rated) lumens in my garage. Its great, have a bigger google speaker for tunes, a TV for watching races while working, and a rolling stool. Makes working in the garage, especially on the bikes, pleasant as hell.

I've got a single-car garage and had a pair of Satco Blink Plus 24" X 24" surface mount units installed when re-doing the entire lighting design for the condo we're in. They're 3000 Kelvin w/3500 lumens. I'd call them adequate, which is enough in a garage you can barely move around in.
https://www.satco.com/products/62-1053
https://www.amazon.com/Nuvo-Blink-25.../dp/B07GY1NLF3

We paid $194 each last year from a lighting design store.

Over the Car

Above the Garage Door (doesn't look like it does much, and it doesn't, but without it...no)

Closing the loop on this. Ended up getting some 48 inch LED standard shop lights. Very pleased with how they turned out. But now I am picking up some insulation, plastic and drywall and we are finishing off our garage. Funny how the little things can escalate. A broken dishwasher in our kitchen ended up turning into a full kitchen remodel during the peak of Covid so wouldn't be the first time we've done stuff like this.......

Ha. I isolated in our basement during covid, and that turned into us doing a full basement finish with a new kitchen and gym down there - I know the feeling

Just purchased these based on some reviews from random websites. It's only been 2 weeks with them installed, but they work.
