Yep, I'm done until BMW integrates the screen into the dash and brings back some buttons. Climate control and presets are a must have.

How often are you adjusting anything to do with the climate control outside of temperature adjustments while you're driving?

Damn idrive 8 is such a step backwards from 7. This looks more like the crappy Merc system. Idrive 7 had the perfect mix of hard buttons and software.
And I also hate the seat toggles being on the door, again like Merc. Ugly buttons you press one time then program into memory and forget they exist. Why do they need to be up next to the door handle you use everyday. Makes absolutely no sense. BMW shouldn't pander Merc drivers who need seat buttons under their nose. And the drive select button is meh, even worse then the nubbin in my 992 911. But by far the most offensive change is the lazy design of just sticking a big ugly looking ipad on the dash. Even worse then Mercs poor attempt at the same thing. Idrive 7 integrate the screens in nice sporty bezels and a cluster gauge that reduces glare while having a classic gauge look. The removal of the programmable buttons is basically a deal breaker for me. I have an EOI on an M2 but iDrive 8 means it will have to be one massive step up as a driver to even consider such a massive step back in interior functionality, style and user experience. iDrive 8 seems like a lazy, cost savings exercise designed to attract Merc drivers. Massive step backwards BMW! Shame! Last edited by BeemerBaron; 08-17-2022 at 12:56 AM.. |

I know that removing buttons is not the best move, but it looks like some people decided to make a national sport.
