Test Drives
Did anyone of you get to test drive the g42 before ordering? I just realized I bought this car entirely off of reviews lol.

No sir, I made my choice on what car I wanted and because it met all my criteria for example, the car must me a coupe, awd, red leather, etc. I ordered the car when there were none of them at dealerships and the first one I ever saw in-person, up close, was mine which was a very cool experience. I just had a feeling the car was going to drive great and be everything I ever wanted and more. Which it has been.

Yes I drove a TN M240 in ~early March. They had I think 3 240s and 1 or 2 230s at the time, all with ridiculous markups. I ordered from another dealer the next month and took delivery in August

I was fortunate to test drive an M240i in November 2021. I placed my order right afterwards and took delivery in February. I posted my impressions here.

Ordered not long after the global launch, based on online material. No chance of seeing one let alone test driving a car at a dealer.

Had an F22 as a loaner a few years ago. That was good. This is supposed to be better, so that was enough for me
![]() Will see in a month or two.

I test drove a used 2020 M340i but that was after I'd already put down a deposit on the M240i. I was having second thoughts about "needing" the 6-cyl vs the 4, but after that drive, I no longer questioned it.

Called in to my dealer back in March '22 for a coffee & chat (no intention of trading in my M135i). He said "have you seen the new M240i? We've got one on the forecourt if you'd like a test drive". 2 days later I'd placed the order! Should get it later this month

Searched for new cars and found one on the local dealer's lot. I got a test ride -- I can focus more on the car as a passenger than I can driving a new/unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar area. No issues arose from the test ride. Car didn't show any signs of pulling while driving straight nor when braking. No rattles or other signs of problems. Engine sounded good. Transmission worked ok. A/C worked. Salesman demo'd some of the car's features/options. Everything worked. Pretty much took it for granted the car would drive ok. Bought it. And as I expected the car drives very well. |

I ordered based on reviews. Though, I was able to sit in one before ordering as I at least wanted it to be comfortable. You are good and will be happy with it.
I thought I was going to order an Audi S3 in 2019, until I sat it in and hated the seats. |

Or if the car shows signs of damage. I know of one case where a guy ordered a new Porsche. It arrived but it was disclosed the car had suffered a small blemish in the clear coat. The protective wrap was applied too soon before the clear coat had completely dried. A small spot I was told about the size of a quarter was block sanded and polished and the blemish removed. Even though it was pointed out to me where the spot was I could not see where it had been reworked. But the customer refused the car and the dealer obliged him. Now I was told the customer did turn around and order another car. And the car in question was sold to a customer in Texas. Oh, the car was at a dealer in CA. For a car to be refused after a test drive would require I think the car manifesting some serious serious issues. An "I changed my mind" ain't going to cut it... |

I test drove a M240i XDrive in May 2022. My local deal had one that they were specifically using for test drives. They eventually sold it to some unlucky person who bought a "gently used" car that I'm sure had been thrashed in test drives.

I never test drove it or saw an iDrive 8 system in person. In fact I hadn’t driven any car at all in several years (just SUVs). Now that I took delivery I gotta say… this thing is freaking awesome lol

When ordered way back in March, no 240s were at the dealership. They did have a TN 230 but would not allow a test drive. I was able to sit and get a "feel" for how I fit. However, nothing like actually driving and experiencing movements.
I might have opted to include lumber support if I had driven one as I am still having some seat discomfort trying to lock in the proper settings. Last edited by PP3121; 11-09-2022 at 11:30 AM.. |
