Unprotected cooling elements
We've seen lots of videos of the front having completely exposed, unprotected cooling elements that would be prone to damage. What are people's thoughts ?

Exposed cooling element
Anxiety inducing. You def don't want to ride behind any dump trucks.

In modern turbo charged high performance cars there are many air cooled heat exchangers. Some come to mind: radiator, HVAC, intercooler, transmission, transaxel/diff and engine oil coolers. Probably even more etc. The point of this is, in a front engine car most of these will be in the very front for optimum cooling and there is not a lot of surface area to compete for this air flow. From a design stand point there are going to be compromises made and this is a common problem in most cars and not just this M2. We have to understand there will be risk associated in all designs. Could BMW provided more protection; probably. But I have seen other car designs equally at risk here.

Yikes, this makes the F87's large plastic mesh look like fort knox. I would be afraid to drive this around. On a positive note, you can now stick a vacuum hose in there to suck out the leaves

So is the front license plate supposed to go there and maybe provide some protection for the cooling elements behind?

This is definitely a big issue. I'm not quite sure what they were thinking.

Tow hook location is very close to a parking sensor so not sure if you could even do the tow hook license plate holder. The spot in the picture I posted above might be the only option for a front license plate though I am not sure how they mounted the plate holder there...

The person or team who designed this vehicle were chosen due to their “wow!” designs but they clearly aren’t car people, they’re designers.
How an issue like this passed multiple reviews with management makes me wonder how many car people are left making decisions within BMW corporate. |

Definitely going to need some type of after market protection for the cooling elements. Kind of a basic flaw in BMW’s design.
