Oh Deer!
Well, waited 7 months finally got my 23 a month ago and a deer decided to destroy it tonight. I have no idea if totaled or not. Will need to get towed to dealer tomorrow and will see what they say. I could not even get out of driver door.
Stay safe out there! Deer can be a nightmare |

That's terrible, Man. Feel bad for you. Wife's car was hit pretty hard by one a few years ago, so I'm always on the lookout for them x3 in the m240i. So much of the USA is overrun with these critters. Maybe better if your car is totalled, but then you gotta order and wait all over again. Jeez, wow.

Sorry to hear. I've been there, back in 2017 I hit a big male deer in my BRZ. Drivers air bag blew and it required replacement of my front bumper, replacement of hood, 1 headlight, and fender work.
It's up to your insurer on whether or not it's totaled, not the dealer. If the cost of repairs exceeds their estimated value of the car then it will be considered a total loss, otherwise they will fix it. If it's declared a total loss and their estimated value of the car is < your loan principle, hopefully you have loan\lease (gap) coverage to cover the gap. |

Unlikely dealer will give you a loaner. Only way they will be involved is if you use their body shop. Then they could rent you a car. Do you have rental insurance on your policy?

Thanks both
Sadly I do not have rental insurance. Hoping for a quick fix if possible. In the mean time I might be driving my daughters Hyundai until she gets her license |

Let us know how/soon/long it takes.
Bummer Myself after 52 years of driving hit my first deer 4 years ago. Was not totaled but a newer car and took time to get parts. |

Dealer won't be the one to say what it will cost to repair. You will need to take it a qualified body/paint shop. Then the process is to file a claim against your policy. An adjuster will view the car. Then after this the body shop adjuster will also view the car and write up an estimate. He will have the benefit of being able to partially tear down the car -- mainly removing the front bumper cover maybe a front wheel or two to see what damage is under the cover, hidden the wheels. I hit a *mule* deer back on July 3 2019 just west of Ely NV. Sucker came up from behind a guard rail. No time to stop or even slow down much. And I wasn't speeding believe it or not. Pic of the (silver) car below. In case you can't ID the car, it is a 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo. Front bumper cover. Passenger front fender. Passenger side radiator, condenser, headlight, some vapor recovery hardware in the fender. Front truck lid. Front passenger side wheel. (Scuffed. Sent out for refinishing. Refinisher ruined the wheel. Bought a new one.) Oh, and lots of Arctic Silver paint. Cost to repair? Over $25,000. And it took almost 2 months. Just bought the car (used) with less than 10K miles in pristine condition with a 2 year 100K mile warranty. Paid $57.7K. (Less than one half its 2003 sticker price of $119K.) BTW, the mule deer was not the worst thing to hit a car of mine. Volvos are much worse. Pic of my 2008 Porsche Cayman S -- below the Turbo -- after an encounter with an '89 Volvo on the baldest tires in the world. In fact I got the Turbo *after* receiving the Cayman S settlement. I bought Cayman early in April and 4 weeks later it was destroyed. Yep, the Cayman was declared a total loss. Hadn't even received the license plate for it yet. Anyhow, you want to focus on getting your car repaired to its pre collision condition as best as is humanly possible. If it can be repaired. If it is not repairable then let it go. Sure it hurts but better to get a replacement than to force a repair of a car that is really good for nothing more than parts. |
