I called a few So Cal BMW dealerships and some are not taking orders because they have no allocations.

Some dealerships are taking deposits?

Should I steer clear of the ones taking deposits or the ones not?

It really does not matter and it ultimately it is a decision you must make for yourself. A BMW Center can place your build within the their order bank, status 47 until allocations arrive. It is clearly a center’s prerogative to currently accept or not to accept deposits.

So a dealer is asking for a deposit for msrp.

They then told me this…

“There’s no set place in line it’s just a matter of when your order gets picked up from the order bank. I’m estimating at least about a 5-6 month wait”

What does this mean?

That is BS! It is first come, first serve so they should have a list in the order deposits were received. It is not rocket surgery. How many deposited individuals would be ahead of you?
