And the news is in. McLaren had the valid contract and Piastri will be racing for McLaren.
So what do we think about the rest of the grid? HAAS, Alpha T and Alpine drivers up in the air potentially with seats. Gasly might go to Alpine now apparently?!?! https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/m...stri/10362076/ |

Obviously don't know the details of who's right or wrong in all this, but something about McLaren and Piastri has rubbed me the wrong way. Never cared for Lando either. I'll be rooting against McLaren.
Seems like Danny Ric may not have a seat next year. Rumour is that Alpine wants Gasly. I'm interested in seeing if he could bounce back and succeed with a different squad. I hope he finds a place somewhere.

So it seems that Piastri will be driving for McLaren in '23
Apparently he's not bound by contract anymore to Alpine. FIA has decided.

Director of Legal - Alpine
Director of Legal Affairs Benedicte Mercer was too busy to send over the labor agreement to Oscar.
Interesting facts emerge, Otmar looks foolish and Alpine required to pay legal expenses for all. Saga if interested.

Alpine to pay legal expenses for all involved. Major embarrassment for Director of Legal affairs and Rossi. Career limiting.

So Gasly may bo to Alpine. (of course Alpine/Renault would love to have 2 french drivers). So if that happens, there's an open spot at AT. What if Andretti puts in a good bid on AT, and Mateschitz decides to sell? (AT isn't that succesful this year anyways, last year they were 6th, now they're 8th) Then next year Colton Herta is probably in F1 (best way for Andretti to go into F1 is buy a team that has an open drivers spot)

Yeah going to be interesting to see how the coming months play out. HAAS might see if they can afford Danny R ditto Williams, unless he could grab a vacated AT seat.
I think he needs to radically drop his salary expectations either way. Seems definite he isn’t going to Alpine from several sources. |

Piastri should be working with Alpine this weekend as reserve driver, he has a contract until end off season though on Monday he'll sit down with Shafnauer to discuss a way forward for both of them in light of what has happened.
It's worth pointing out that Ricciardo claims he had no idea that Piastri was vying to take his place. |

First Piastri interview since the CRB ruled earlier this week that he has a valid contract to drive for McLaren (instead of Alpine) in 2023.

And it appears Alpine have let their head of legal go after this debacle. Hardly suprising considering the mess they seem to have created. I'd suggest they need to add a few more people in their legal department to not let this happen again!
