2023 cars we're most excited to review, by Throttle House
The second car on the list is the G87. Discuss.

On the weight topic...I've been seeing several M3's, M4's, and M5 both dyno tested and weighed independently and beat the figures posted by BMW. I honestly have no concern about weight. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, but I have a hunch this car will be an absolute gem in power, weight and driving dynamics and will be highly desirable. Just tunes in S58's yield 100hp. The aftermarket will go crazy with this thing.
We also already know of just a few things that can drop weight pretty significantly into the 3500 range: carbon seats, roof, hood, lithium battery, titanium exhaust, wheels, etc. The M3/M4 crowd are also swapping the bracing structure for the CSL one. Only a matter of time before a carbon unit becomes available there too. |

It seems BMW overestimates the weight for many of their vehicles (at least for the US). Several M3/M4 owners have proven those vehicles weigh less than advertised.
The reported curb weight for a M240i w/Xdrive is 3,871lbs and someone posted in a thread on the G42 forum that theirs weighed 3,814lbs with a full tank of gas. I imagine the G87 will follow suit. |

Only thought on why BMW advertises higher weights is maybe that's for a car with every option or spec'd with the most common options? Can't think of any other reason that makes sense. ![]() |

My guess would be because there are set regulation standards for determining weight.
Example: Vehicle with every possible option, plus 3/4 tank of gas, plus 1.5 passengers. So the car may in fact weigh less than advertised (hopefully). Maybe it might weigh more, we don't really know and wont know until spring/summer. Why do we really care about vehicle weights? Taxes.

My guess is that all of the Youtubers will say that this car is brilliant
...but comes with a caveat of heavy weight (which spoils some handling characteristics). That it's more practical than a cayman or a supra, but doesn't feel as playful as either. However, it is more playful than a base M3 or M4 because of the shorter wheel base. Then cut to some track driving shots and a few drifts, talk crap about ID8 and end it with a 'Doug Score' ~60 BTW... these are just opinions from a few guys who test drive cars. It is not gospel and certainly doesn't apply to everyone else's situations and desires. It's there for entertainment first. It ain't like we're getting a review from Gordon Murray or Lewis Hamilton. |

I feel a G87 review from Chris Harris would be a valid one as he currently owns a F87 CS that he had wrapped in British Racing Green when the car was new. Last edited by T_U_D; 01-11-2023 at 12:24 PM.. |
