I really hate this concept but you can't fight the white.
Unless they have an option to just buy it with the car, I think we're screwed. It seems they are doing that with a few features where you can either buy it outright or pay as a service. For others though they are not providing that option, it's either a service or nothing. I hate this too but we're not powerless. If enough people voice their anger and don't buy BMWs they will be forced to change. A good example is all the bad press they got with trying to make CarPlay a service before they eventually reversed it. The only issue is many BMW owners lease, so they may not care. The whole thing sucks.

Regarding ID, I wouldn't be too concerned since the car is under warranty. It's likely going to need a firmware update, or they need to replace a module; all under warranty of course.
They gave me a new battery, but under "goodwill" since it wasn't a warranty covered issue.

I might get my car back on Monday. Seems they need assistance from HQ in Deutschland on the ID issue.

Sounds like a short-sighted dealer if they didn’t just replace the battery before delivery if they knew it had been completely flattened. My local dealers will put new batteries in cars that have been stored for any length of time without a battery maintainer before delivery and the battery has been flattened, to alleviate almost inevitable customer issues when the first cold winter weather hits.

Nah, this was a different dealer that replaced my battery. I ordered the car via a dealership in the SF Bay area (I went on an M240i allotment witch hunt, per se), and then it was transported (at my cost) to me directly in Utah. The driver of the transport truck was unaware that leaving the car in neutral with the park brake engaged would cause the battery such harm. The dealer here in Utah has been top notch in terms of taking care of my service needs.

200 miles on the clock, and my car is at the dealer, AGAIN! Now the infotainment part of the curved display is blank and just says "BMW" is bold white letters. The dealership has never seen this before. I already attempted to get iDrive to reboot multiple ways to no avail. I think I'm going back to Lexus right before the warranty expires.
Mine had the same issue after remote starting through the app. I was tempted to bring it to a dealer but it fixed itself after a shutdown and restart. A quick restart didn't fix it, had to wait a few minutes.

I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again because it's like driving with half the car not operational.

Makes sense as the cars electronics don't power off for at least 10m after turning the car off and locking the doors.

If they move away from iDrive8 so soon, I can’t decide if I think that’s good or bad for those of us that have it. I hate to think they might not care much to refine a legacy system with updates unless absolutely necessary. But then I cross my fingers maybe they will just give us the M car skins if it makes it easier on them to have less versions to validate updates. I’d really love to get those cluster skins and fonts.

ID5 was in many BMW models for MY 2017 and one MY later, 2018, ID6 was released. Small changes that most owners never noticed. ID8 vs ID8.5 will more than likely be small as well.

The same thing happened to me @ around 1,000 miles while mid-drive on the freeway, but only lasted a few minutes. Hasn't happened again.

You guys got lucky. I got my car back from the dealer yesterday. They had to get a new/specific SW/FW version from HQ in Germany and have it pushed to my car. Seems the OTA update just didn't want to play nice, and so this was the solution. I too hope it doesn't happen again. If it does, I can only hope it's during the warranty period. Then again, if it breaks due to a SW upgrade which I did not technically request, I wonder if they would cover the "fix" at no cost?
