Will Dealer Permanently Disable Auto Stop/Start?

I’m bringing my M240 into the dealer for service shortly. I’m wondering if anyone has had the ASS function permanently disabled and if the dealer is willing to do it.

I really hate this function and will gladly pay the dealer to disable it.

I don't think the dealer will mess with it. however, you can get BimmerCode and turn it off.

The OP has a 2023. I don't think Bimmercode supports ID8 yet. Hopefully it does soon.

I believe I saw a post from someone with ID8 and using BimmerCode for their exhaust valve setting... maybe other functions work although it is unofficially supported?

No, that was BimmerLink, a different tool.

The dealer would never do that

Why won’t they remove it at my request?

It’s my car. If I don’t want it why should this be forced on me?

ASS is not a government mandate. Some manufacturers have it and some don’t. In fact, on my 2020 M240 ASS was set up as “last use “mode.

Why should my 2023 be any different?

You make a great point.

I'd make these same arguments to the Service Advisor at your dealership. The worst they can say is "No". Telling them that Jimmy from Bimmerpost had it done at his dealer isn't likely to help your cause.

And I feel your pain. In my mind, the fewer electronic gizmos/nannies, the better. But the auto/stop start seems crazy and does no favors to the engine with regard to wear. It's all there to help emissions/carbon output (don't no the tech term).

Good luck!

Because if they wanted to make it defeatable, they would have give us a way.

It probably has to do with emissions/mpg ratings tied to car.

Something to like on my '01 Z06 came with a 1-to-4 skip shift in my manual transmission forcing me to shift 1-to-4 at low speed for mpg rating they gave the car.

Telling the dealer to disable it would be like asking them to remove the OPF filter on the Euro cars... they ain't gonna do it

Now if there is an aftermarket way of doing it then I'd go that route. Even though AS/S is suppose to help with emissions/gas, I've always been taught the most wear in an engine happen at start-up. So I'd personally prefer not to have it doing that.

My 2014 435i also had that. I have gotten used to turning it off right after pushing Start button

same here, since it is right next to the start/stop button it's just a matter of moving my finger an inch and pressing again...not an insurmountable problem.

Interesting, my wife’s 2015 435 had a ‘last use” setting

Sounds like there have been a lot of BimmerCode application on your cars!
