Are your reverse lights really dim?

I just noticed how difficult it is to see the backup camera image at night. While looking at the backup camera I switched between Drive and Reverse and the white reverse LED’s are super dim. And no, it’s not my screen brightness. Anyone else notice this too?

Have you tried going into reverse with store windows (or something reflective) behind you so you can see if the lights are both on?

They are both on. When switching from D to R I see the lighted area from the reverse LED’s. They are just super dim.

Mine are also unsatisfactorily dim. In fact, I’ve been thinking about bringing it up here to see if I was alone, but you beat me to it.

Either the lights aren’t bright or the camera lens in the back is really bad at collecting light.

Yep they are very dim. Makes reversing at night pretty difficult.

They are unacceptably dim! So much so I was complaining about it to my wife a couple nights ago.

Surely someone has a brand/part # for a quality replacement.

I'm curious what color BMW yall have? I too have a dim backup camera view on my screen. However, I'm convinced that it's because the camera can see the bumper, and the light is illuminating the bumper, causing the camera to dim everything else. I have BG color.

Tempted to try something like this though I'm uncertain how to the the wiring into the trunk (short of drilling). https://www.amazon.com/VLEDS-1800lm-.../dp/B0813XFLSZ
Coming from a Jeep Wrangler into which I had installed some super bright LED backup floods into the bumper these BMW backup lights are really sad.

Although if it is the bumper in view over-saturating the camera these may only make things worse.

I have no idea how bright mine are...so i thought i would check, ya know being safety conscious thought i should know.
So....Put it in reverse, jump out of the car and run behind while its backing up, check em out, jump back in moving car...didn't work out too well.

I've opened my door when slowly backing up and it applied the brakes and put it in park.

I never really thought about the white reverse lights when reversing in the dark until I saw this thread. then I realized this morning when I was going to work in the dark that I really rely on the red of the tail lights and brake lights instead lol. the white does show up a little tho, but mainly the red.

Right after I bought the car I had to reverse into a pitch black parking lot full of cars. Couldn't see a thing. My only real annoyance so far with the car.

I'm tempted to put some electrical tape, crescent moon shaped, on the bottom of the camera in an attempt to block off the camera from seeing the illuminated bumper. maybe that'll be a fix. need ot get some electrical tape...
