Active Cruise
Hi Everyone & HNY,
I have a fully spec'd M240i Xdrive, however prior to delivery (due to chip shortages, of course!!), the car had the Adaptive Cruise deleted from the order. Upon a little investigation, I can confirm the car has all the parts, including the key grille based radar and it's all plugged in, I'm simply missing those steering wheel buttons! Talking to BMW Tech, apart from appearing not to be that bothered to assist (of course, I've bought the car now!!) they cannot confirm if I simply need to add the steering buttons and activate the software?! I've taken the opportunity to look at a few others I've seen in the wilderness when I've been out and about in Berkshire (UK), it appears there are a few of us with the same situation, does anyone know what the options might be, could I simply by the steering buttons (if I can order from BMW due to stock level shortages), then have it activated? |

Interesting.
It’s not a feature I like; it can slow you down too much if you come up on a vehicle and need to wait for another vehicle to overtake you. Plus it kinda defeats one of the purposes of CC - keeping a constant, therefore efficient speed. Anyway, it’s not listed on my spec sheet. |

The BMW Tech Advisers in the UK dealership I went to, appeared both unsure and not that fussed to confirm. As suggested below, it might just be loads of cars came with the hardware, but due to Covid chip shortage impacts, they removed the option to save on the steering wheel buttons as there are around 8 chips needed to Active (4 more than non-active). A little digging around, I can see the radar part in the lower front valance is a pre-build part, the wiring is already there, so plug and play, so all BMW had to do was delete the option while the chips issue remains.

It's frustrating, as my car as every other option spec'd, sunroof, Tech Pack+, 360 Cameras, M interior door lights, M Pro Pack, Midnight Purple, HK Audio, Drive Recorder, it's all there......just no ACC ;-)

Same, even though I'd rarely just it, it's annoying that my car is missing the option due to chip shortage. They should have provided this on the non-M flagship 2 series and only removed it from lesser 2 series models.

I took delivery last summer and I also did not have the option for ACC, which was fine. My wife's car has it and I cuss every time I set the cruise and forget to turn the laser off.
The only time I've used ACC and enjoyed it was in stop and go traffic and I wanted to look left at the slums in Mexico as I was driving through El Paso. It allowed me not to pay attention to the traffic in front of me, which was horrible on my part. |

That sucks. I got ACC in mine delivered in early Jan 23 in US, and it works fantastic with full stop-and-go control. I'd imagine the radar and cameras used for acc are the same hardware used for the auto-braking safety systems, but it's possible it's a different hardware spec. I actually told my dealer it was a required feature for me since I drive a few places where it's common to get stuck in traffic jams and ACC makes it so much more tolerable.
