Rash of AGM Batteries on C-list claiming reconditioned

I'm not up on the technology of AGM's but I know they should last a decent period of time. Why would putting them on a 10 amp charger for a few hours recondition them. How long should one last?

If you are considering buying a battery from Craigslist, don’t do it.

Mine lasted 8 years, which I believe is normal. It is apparently a tricky job somehow for my car, the tech completely screwed up my trunk door (couldn't close properly afterwards) and the master tech had to step in.

I've never heard of a reconditioned AGM battery, or any other type battery. Recharged is probably the correct term, and even that can only go so far with an old battery.

I replaced the AGM battery in my M235i at 7 years. The battery still worked okay, but I decided to be pro-active and not get stuck somewhere. I bought an OEM battery from my BMW dealer plus ordered one of those ODBII devices to "register" the battery to the car computer. Easy job, actually (just don't close your trunk lid with the battery disconnected or removed).

CTEK chargers/maintainers have a recondition cycle that is supposed to bring batteries back to life. (I should knock wood when I say this but) I ran the dying AGM battery in my 2007 E93 through that process -- took over a week -- and it is still working now, 4 years later.

I wonder if they could be warranty cores from a dealership that followed the techs home?
Just sayin' . . .
