So, Just got a PSP
A buddy just gave it to me. Cleaned up pretty nice. Bought a battery, charger, and a couple games/movies. What are your picks for the handheld? Any gems I should look for?

We still have a couple PSPs around somewhere. One was stock and the other was running custom firmware. I remember having to remove the PSP internal battery and scratch out (sever) a specific circuit within the circuit board on the battery using an exacto knife. The battery circuit board hack was done to then be able to deploy the software exploit and install the custom firmware. After upgraded, I could use a charcoal pencil to fix the circuit board breach and use the battery again as normal.
That said, I pretty much either hack, modify, or at least consider it, for anything I've ever owned ...cars, PC's, tablets, phones etc. I've written custom linux kernels and open source firmware for popular android phones under alias' (on XDA etc.). I also still have a hackintosh around here somewhere.

I have a very old PSP running a custom firmware/bootmod with far more emulated games on it than I can ever play. I didnt have to make any modifications to any hardware to do it, so there may have been hardware revisions as Sony tried to keep people from being able to hack them.
Iirc, the cat/mouse game was they would release a new game and it would require OS version x.xx, which would ship on the cartand you’d have to install it to play. However, since the PSP is no longer supported, they may have reached a final OS version which got cracked for the bootmod, etc. |

If I end up with another one I may tinker with it a bit, however my days of hardware hacking consoles is behind me. With everything going digital I've been more focused on preservation. I'm currently working on the NTSC Dreamcast and Turbografx-16 libraries. Magical Chase is going to end up being an "Expensive Chase" being how rare it is, HA!

I really liked Lumines. Still have my PSP. Recently dusted it off and updated the OS.
