I’m not a huge YT reviewer like some of the video reviews show, but I am a performance driving instructor so I am speaking from real world experience of many years driving M cars so this is simply my opinion. I’m sure some people will agree and some will argue, and that’s the beauty of opinions.

IMO if you already have a G42 M240i that’s a much better daily for the money and just as fast, you don’t need an M2 unless you are a track focused driver or some extra money to burn or simply need to have the M2 badge on your trunk (which I totally understand)

They are both great cars either way, enjoy whatever you decide!

BTW I have seen white in person and would choose white if it was my car, with the CF roof and black wheels, black gloss trim it looks insane.

What were the driving dynamics of the car like? As in power delivery through different gears and revs?

Is it more linear/less torquey than the S55 M2?

More linear for sure. It doesn’t shove you back in your seat because the S58 doesn’t have low down punch, which is probably is a good thing depending on preference. Once you get into 5th / 6th gear is when it comes alive and you’ll notice a quicker power delivery. I can say it feels as fast as an M4 through the gears (not comp). I’m curious to put it on a dyno to see how “de-tuned” it really is. We all know BMW fudges their numbers lower than what they actually put out and it feels closer to base M4 power IMO.

I kind of figured as much from what I've seen of the S58 in other models.

I will always reserve all judgement until I get behind the wheel (whenever that will be) but more linear than the S55 is not a great start for me.

One interesting thing though is the tuning potential, this should map to crazy number right?

It’s interesting because the throttle map is actually better in the M240i (I’ve heard through my colleagues in Munich that it’s the same throttle map as the M5 cs and differs from the throttle map in the M340i with the same B58) there is a YT vid from Hagerty that shows how the M240i beats the M340 and Supra (B58) so this shows evidence of that statement and you feel it in the car.
Back to the M2…it does feel more linear than an S55, but the top end has more power through the gears and it is noticeable vs S55 so that’s a bonus. Think M4 S58 (base) power in a lighter weight and that’s the feeling which is a good thing.
I’m sure once the tuners get to it in depth, there will be some good performance upgrades.

For tuning, comparing apples to apples, the B58 has more potential. Now to be fair, without making turbo upgrades, fuel delivery upgrades and head upgrades, the G8X has more potential vs the G42 M240 with tuning and basic boltons.

I thought the M cars don’t get “unlocked” until the 1200 mile service? Maybe the car feels slower because it’s in the break in period? After the 1200 miles shouldn’t it be faster or was that a myth?

Uh, no, this is incorrect. B58 isn't an M engine and M Perf models are not from M GmbH as it does not show this on their VIN sticker, they are just what BMW wanted to call the higher output series cars because Audi used S. Forget the what an actual M is stuff because that doesn't matter; the engine is just like its predecessor, (N55) it is the normal series 6 cylinder turbo. It's pretty amusing you would use N55 as the counter example because N55 was in an actual M product, unlike B58.

I had a 2020 M2c, and now the 23 M2.

I wonder who has driven 1200 miles yet? I know it doesn't unlock any more power, but not going past 4k-5k rpm, and without WOT, how on earth are folks comparing this car to anything? My m2c was trash down low till it hit 2800 rpm and I purposely kept it a gear low, just for that reason. The s58 does feel more linear, but I haven't floored it to even know how it dumps the gas and goes. And for what it's worth, I can feel the power building throughout all of acceleration. Nearly all awd cars are faster in a dig. My wife's 228xi smoked my m2c off a light, on just a slight incline lol. I caught her very quickly. I do think the m240i is sweet af also. My two favorites of the new generation. Not knocking anything. B58 sounds better!!

Exactly. The torque is markedly different on the new M2 comparing 2500 to 3000RPM. At 3k it's full whack.
