Is it possible to option the carbon bucket seats with a sunroof instead of the standard carbon fiber roof?

I assume the answer is no as I have not seen such a spec yet, but I don't really understand why. Does anyone know?

You can only pick the options that your BMW regional HQ has decided to offer. So you can go to the BMW builder for your region and see what is on offer.

If you are ordering in USA, the bucket seats are part of the carbon package, which includes the carbon roof. So no, you cannot get a sunroof with bucket seats.

Not possible. I tried to do this when ordering the car in December from BMW Germany. I really wanted the M Driver's Package (for the increased top speed) and was told it's only available with the Track Package. The supposed reason for this that, at higher speeds, the sunroof is the weak link. I heard of other owners having high speed sunroof blowouts, when I owned my C63s, but figured it was a MB thing.

In the end I'm bummed about not getting the factory increased top speed, but I guess I'll be enjoying the sun more this way

In Canada its possible on the G80 6MT (not sure abou the comp) since the buckets and the sunroof are both stand alone options. Might change in the future with new packages/options, but don't hold your breath.

I'm sure many people would hav gotten the buckets if it wasn't part of a package.

Yes, I have a base G80 with a sunroof but chose not to option the bucket seats because it’s my daily.

But for the G87, it seems they’ve packaged the bucket seats and the carbon fiber roof such that you can’t have one without the other, which is just stupid, especially for a model that doesn’t have that many options available to begin with.

cf seats only with Track package ( Europe) or Carbon package (US) and this package comes with cf roof

the funny part is, it would probably be less expensive to order the carbon pack and have a shop swap a sunroof panel over from an m2 or 240i, repaint, and sell your carbon one.

a pair of oem carbon seats is going to be like $15-20k+ easy
