My New G87 M2

Hello everyone,

I picked up my brand new 2023 M2 from Fairfax BMW a week ago and just wanted to share my thoughts and experience so far. I had a deposit in for one since 2021 (I originally wanted an F87 M2C) but they were no longer being sold new, so I opted to wait.

I customized a Zandvort Blue, 6 speed manual, with all the options including the carbon bucket seats, black wheels and red calipers. The sales guys sends me an email, saying that there is one coming in very close to my specs. Zandvort blue, 6 speed, carbon package (no carbon buckets) but everything else. He sends me an email "Guess what???" so I immediately go in, and here we are...

I was skeptical on the looks at first, but seeing it in person looks much better. Does it look better than a M2CS? IMO no, but still a gorgeous car and the color pops out to everyone. I thought this ZV Blue color would be similar to that Hyundai Veloster light blue color, but this one is different. At nighttime, it looks grey and during a cloudy day it looks similar to the Hyundai blue color. During the sunlight is where this color pops and stands out.

Did I pickup an HEA unit? I didn't even know what it stood for until I got on these forums. "HEA stands for “Handler-Erst-Ausstattung” which is essentially the dealer allocation for demo cars." Some things I also noticed is that this car has the Pirelli P-Zero tires, and not the Michelin Pilot tires that I wanted. The wheels also don't have any lug nut keys (which you would think at this price would be standard).

I am happy to report that they are keeping my original build, but the sales rep stated that the carbon bucket seat option is 5-6 months away. BMW informed me that I was the first one with this car in the region, and that any new buyers will have to wait 2 years and that it is selling above MSRP.

I hope everyone on here has as pleasant experience as I did purchasing the car. It's a head turner and getting lots of attention. This is my first true "M" car coming from a 135i.

Congrats and enjoy. Yes, that is a HEA.

Your dealer did possibly/probably make up some stuff. There are people who have received their allocation for their customizable order thatvarenin production with the full cf package (bucket seats) who should have their cars by summer.

As to any new buyers waiting two years, depends on how many on their list and number of allocations they receive. Pricing being above MSRP, that is your dealer charging that. It is not a standard by any means.

Congratulations—enjoy in good health!

I like that dealer. That’s where I bought my 135is. Like you, I tried to trade for the OG M2 but was impossible at the time. It seems like an easier process this time, but I’m ordering from elsewhere unless they somehow can get it quicker.

And ZV looks much better in person. If I had to compare it to anything, maybe a Carolina Blue. Photos seems to make it look more powder or baby blue.

Looks good. 'course, I would say that as it is pretty much a duplicate of the one I bought on April 14.

Biggest difference is mine came with Michelin tires rather than Pirelli tires. I would have been ok with Pirelli tires but I'll certainly see how the Michelin tires fare..

Word I get -- read it here but also my dealer told me the same thing -- is tires is the luck of the draw. A new M4 parked on the showroom floor close to the car I bought was fitted with Pirelli tires.

It’s the same deal with Porsche. Most of the time you get Pirelli but sometimes you get the Michelins. I got Pirellis on my 911 and I’m not sure how long they are supposed to last but I only got 12,000 miles out of the rears and just replaced them. Seems kind of short.

He was 100% lying to convince OP. I hate that they are allowed to say whatever they feel like. No wonder people hate the dealership model.

First with my Boxster then with my 996 Turbo I managed 20K miles on the rear tires. This was true whether the Boxster had Pirelli or Michelin tires or whether the Turbo had Continental or Bridgestone tires.

What I found is a proper alignment is paramount. I had the Turbo aligned one time and the rear tires were gone in 8K miles. With new tires on the car and the car on the alignment rack I talked to the tech and said I wanted an alignment that maximized tire life without compromising road feel -- I did *not* track the car -- and he gave the car a less aggressive alignment. After the car felt super on the road and tire life was 20K miles. Set after set after set.

Might mention I put 150K miles on the car and and I should point out while the rears were *done* at 20K miles the fronts had another 20k miles left and so I only replaced all 4 tires every 40K miles.

Pretty much the above applied to my Boxster, too. And I put 317K miles on that car.

I'll keep an eye (and a hand) on the M2 tires looking for feeling for signs of abnormal wear. If I see/feel any I'll have in for an alignment. But so far it feels quite good and I don't expect any issues arising from alignment.

Will just have to see how the tires hold up with reasonably safe and sane usage.

I did need a four wheel alignment when I got new tires and as you implied, fronts were still good and probably only need to be replaced half as often.

Congrats!

The buckets went into production in March 2023. There are a few forum members that are expecting their priority one G87s equipped with the CF buckets soon. In fact, one had their car arrive at the dealership yesterday.

The bi-color wheels appear to make ZB a tad more acceptable.

A future word of advice, do not believe everything a client advisor or sales manager tells you. The vast majority of them will tell you what you want to hear.

Or what they want you to hear and what you may not like hearing (solely for their benefit).

Congrats!

Fairfax BMW is my personal worst BMW dealer in the DMW, for reasons I won't clog up the thread with.

Thanks everyone! I just hit over 1000 miles and scheduled the break-in service at BMW. I brought it out to Katies Car & Coffee in Great Falls VA and met many great people. I also took a nice ride out to Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive specifically and it was an amazing drive. This car really loves those turns and was comfortable even in track mode. With the regular sports seats, my girlfriend was really comfortable so I'm still curious to see how the carbon bucket seats compares with these. I keep reading that it's not the best choice, especially with a 6 speed as I am planning some nice road trips in this car after I get PPF.
