everyone needs to stop reading reviews and just get what they want to get—-nauseating how much emphasis everyone puts on reviews these days.

The only reason anyone would want to look back at the G87 and appreciate it (vs the G42) is if they were a true M car snob. In that case, pony up and buy a M3, M4, M5, or M8 which all look better than Legoland, even the pig nose/beaver teeth is somehow less offensive… at least you can appreciate the G80/2 from multiple angles.

G42 and F87 are invisible cars. People wouldn't look twice thinking it's just another BMW. I wasn't interested in any 2 series until the G87. |

I've gotten a significant amount of positive attention in my G87s (Brooklyn Grey and Zandvoort Blue). Literally just had a random knock on my window while I was parked taking a call in the car earlier today. It's subjective, so it's OK for you to hate it. Lots of people do not share your opinion. |

Sure, but far more do share my opinion. Just read all the reviews, the forums, shall I continue? The overall opinion is this car is a significant downgrade in looks from the F87. It’s just a fact. I am supremely disappointed in the design as I was going to trade in my g42 for it but refuse to pay any money for something that many and most important myself consider revolting.

Objectively, of course the G87 will outperform all the F87s, although most of the metrics vs. the CS are certainly within a reasonable degree of uncertainty based on driving conditions.
Plenty of reviewers said they prefer the F87. Now, some prefer the G87. Just like some preferred the F87 CS over the Cayman GTS and others prefer the Cayman. I’m not trying to crap on a G87 thread, I actually like the car. It appears to be an amazing value. I can’t think of a current year car on sale within $15K that I would rather buy as a daily. I would get the 6MT. |

Ran into the same thing with the G82. I took delivery of my first one basically at launch (April 2021). The online vocal minority hated it and swore owners would be embarrassed to be seen in it; meanwhile, I got unsolicited props left and right from tons of people in person. If you rode with me, you’d be convinced that BMW made a hit design based purely on all of the attention and random positive feedback. Ironically, there are several anecdotes of people who hated the G80/82 design and now like it and have even bought one. I have no doubt the same will occur with the G87. If you don’t like it, stand on your opinion yourself and don’t call it fact. |

All of mine and my wife's coworkers who enjoy cars are psyched to see the M2 and have been very positive about it. You can see this with pretty much anything online, negative sentiments always gets way more traction than positive ones.

Meh. I don't care about the popularity contest. I like it, that's all that matters to me. I feel no need to defend the car, my self esteem does not hinge on the opinions of the crowd.

I currently average between 20 and 22 MPG g80x 50% traffic. Several reviews put this at 30 mpg straight hwy testing. I just don't feel the need to be all up in the boost all the time. Which Is why I like this car so much, such a true Jekyll Commute and Hyde for the Track.

Finally got to see the car in person for the first time. I suspect a lot of the negative commentary here is from people who haven’t really seen this car. I stood there admiring it for a good 20 or so minutes, just taking it in. It’s just breathtakingly beautiful! BMW really really knocked it out of the park.
Funny thing is, the M2 was parked right next to the M4 including a few other regular models nearby and the grill (which gets the most flak) looks modern, different, and amazing in comparison! I really think BMW has found it’s new design language with this and won’t be surprised this gets carried over across their models. Can’t wait to get this in my hand, the wait is pure torture lol, especially now that i’ve seen it. |
