Porsche&Merc and others are already in the hybrid DCT market. BMW just doesn't want to spend any R&D on it.

My point is "No R&D on DCT from BMW." They use off-the-shelf DCT for FWD architecture from Mini.

Which version of G87? Many of us suspect next iterations will be auto only.

Perhaps because the DCT would have required too many modifications to be compatible with the xDrive, the ZF8 is therefore the most cost-effective option.
Go back to 2007, when the DKG was designed, and try to think of an M car with all-wheel drive: that would have been laughable. |

Porsche's PDK is supplied by ZF, BUT "ZF is the manufacturer and they build it to Porsche's specs" meaning they built the PDK in conjunction and entirely based off of Porsche's specs. They're just the manufacturer, without Porsches engineering there'd be no PDK. With that being said, PDK isn't TRULY a ZF transmission as it isn't manufactured to ZF specifications. Same with BMW and their E chassis DCT, made to their spec for their M cars.
