Thoughts on an '05 S55?

im trading in my e90 330i this month and am looking for something bigger, more powerful. i came across this:

its crazy powerful at 493 hp and is plenty big. its rated at 20 mpg highway (which is what i mostly drive) and is the color combo im looking for. i know they arent the most reliable cars on the market but at this price its definately a lot less than the S4 i was looking at (58k). what do you think??

Out of warranty S AMG. Gas prices are another concern. I would stay away.

These cars have nightmare cost associated with repair/maint. costs WITHOUT warranty.

I had an 02' S55 and my ABC(air ride suspension) went out, cost me close to 1,600 to repair, but I had covered by warranty.

It's very hard to find a third-party to warranty the AMG cars, so my point is, Don't buy one unless it still has it.

Overall, it's a badass ride man!

Yo op, if your getting an extended warranty then go ahead.....that car is a beast in straights, highway cruise and repair bills

As long as you have CPO or extended warranty, it'll be fine. The '05s are the second last run of the W220 body style and they are fairly reliable and has most of the crap ironed out at that point. Coming from a W211 E55, I can tell you that you'll enjoy the power that are available for tap at all times. Also, the engine is such an old school design that it is almost fool proof. The power mods that are available out there are amazing as well. You'd be killing unsuspected drivers left and right with this giant boat while having a massage with the comfort seats at the same time

Have you driven the car yet? It's pretty damn wild lol. I had the opportunity to drive one and you cannot feel the speed in that car lol ... It'll get you in mad trouble if you don't keep an eye on the speedometer

wow i just took it out for a spin and i can definitely say it is what you guys have said and more. you really need to watch the speedo because i thought i was at 40 when i was approaching 75

i think ill pull the trigger because it has some warranty left, some major stuff has been done by the dealer, and the money i would have spent on the S4 will be more than enough for repairs that might come (my friend has one and told me about them. pretty big repairs but arent that bad IMO)
