M Buttons

For those of you who already have your M2s, how are you programming your two M buttons? I am envisioning how I’d use them but it’s still somewhat abstract for me since I am waiting for my car to be built.

I thought those buttons were specific to performance settings, not seating.

Hence “just like”. Unless you’re being snarky…
No, I’m just trying to learn. I have the owner manual, so maybe I need to better understand what they do first.

The dealership's genius should be able to help show you the options when you pick up the car. Of course, you will ultimately need to set them up for how you want the car to drive/handle/react.

My M Button settings...

Corrected:

Engine: Sport
Gear Shift Assistant: On
Chassis: Sport
Steering: Comfort
Brake: Comfort
DSC: On

The Genius person set the above for me. With a new car I didn't want anything wild. Well, that wild...

Not sure I like the M Traction Control off though. I'm a big believer in nanny systems at least until I become more familiar with the car. I'll have to look into that and see what it actually means.
I do the same thing. Then I walk it back. I couldn’t imagine turning everything off on my Ducati. I’d probably be dead. Even after I learned how it rode, I still never fully turned everything off. I’m no Marc Marquez or Valentino Rossi.

This is kind of what I was envisioning. Are brakes in sport too grabby? I have had this issue with PCCBs and PSCBs in Porsches.

Also is the steering overly weighty in sport?

I personally don't detect much difference, but others report a difference. I'm going to go out and specifically try them back to back over again to see for sure which I like more.

My settings for "attack mode" may still change based on that.

I like auto rev match. Though I can heel toe, and I do in my Z4MC, I like the car doing it for me.

I like rev match technology. I think most people who don’t turn it on mainly have a sense of pride that they heel and toe. The car does it perfectly every time and I shift faster with it. I leave it on if it’s available.

I turn it off. If I could have it off in the default mode I would. Part of the fun of driving manual is nailing the downshifts. I get the feature and it works well, but its just one step closer to having an auto. I would not have purchased the g87 if I had to disable TC to turn off shift assist. I heel-toe every downshift, for funsies.

Not to say I don't get why people like it and use it, of course.

M2

I drive in M1 at all times until I’m cruising on the highway, then pop it back to the default comfort.

M2
Engine - sport plus
Chassis - sport plus

Brake - comfort
Traction -Traction control level 4

I have M1 for launch control, M2 for getting rowdy, im slowly bumping up the traction control levels, no need to go straight to 0
pressing either of the M buttons off reverts back to comfort, no need to preset for it.

Two things to note:
1- TC Levels going up mean “more” traction control, so less slip. 0 is full off. 10 is the least permissive.
2- MDM is already between 4 and 7, so having TC on 4 might be the same thing as MDM in many cases.
Yeah i was backwards on that, i meant to go to 0 not 10 haha

And Ive also changed my settings on M1 and M2. M1 is now MDM, M2 is now 0 traction control. I tried launching with traction control at 1, at 10, same minimal wheel spin, doesnt feel like there is any difference, maybe its a sideways style traction control? 0 is definitely different. Smoke, smoke, and more smoke.

After fiddling a bit I settled on the following for M2;

Engine: Sport+
Suspension: Sport+ (I kept trying comfort but it is just a little too soft for me when driving spiritedly).
Brakes: Sport. (I spent some time going back and forth and I like sport).
Steering: Comfort
MDM traction control

My M1 is set up to be my "stock" set up, just sport on the engine, for days like today when it's rainy and such. I'm hoping Bimmercode can let me make "sport" engine be the default state so I can use M1 for more aggression than it's currently set at. I'd like to make the M2 setting and the make M2 even more aggressive, such as very low traction control. All of that said, it is easy to adjust the settings on the fly so I may still set up M1 and M2 that way anyway. I have the "setup" widget as the first widget on my screen so it's quick to change things.

I just love that we have so many ways to configure things to each individual taste. It's fun to play around with.

Yes, well and it’s giving me a bit of a head start in how I might approach my own settings. I will report back after I play around a bit after delivery. I just got my vin today so inching closer.
