Just a heads up for people who need to have the recall done. Its not a quick/same day fix. They will probably need your car for about a week. First the have to do the siftware work on uour car which is communicated to Germany. Then a VIN specific card it created and shipped to your dealer. Not that its a big deal and you can get a loaner but when I made the appointment, the idiot SA I spoke to said it was a same day fix.

Correct. This is only for cars built within the recall date range.

Is this the credit-card style digital key? (i.e. not via phone, which is only equipped with AT cars)

Yes, credit card but can also allow phone to act as a key.

I did this for my M240i. I dropped off the old wallet key. Drove my car home. They contacted me when the new one arrived about a week later. Took the car back in for the software update which took about 1/2 a day. Not a biggie. Except they ganked one of my wheels. The rear wheel has a slight “drag” line like it was pinched in a rubber vise. 🤬

Odd, I was told by multiple people including NA that it was not possible to do it that way.

What dealership?

Had it done in Miami. I went in for something else and they mentioned the recall. They asked me if I had the digital wallet key on me. I told them nope but I live right up the street so I can get it. I walked home several blocks and brought the card to them. Took my car home and they texted me when the new card arrived.
