ID8 Carplay GPS Bug
So there's a thread on the G42 forum on this topic, but I figured I'd start one here since someone on the G42 forum pointed out I was asking G87 questions in the wrong forum. I did a search, and it does not appear this topic is yet being discussed in our G87 forum.
To summarize the bug; If you're using navigation on your iphone (waze, maps, google, whatever have you), having the phone disconnected from Carplay works just fine, but if you connect to Carplay you inevitably end up with a bug that results in your phone GPS placing your position some distance parallel of where you really are. I've had this distance range from 200 feet to 2 miles. If you go ahead and disconnect the phone from Carplay, it returns back to normal. The vehicle's onboard GPS is never affected (I've tested this several times), but the onboard GPS directions just aren't anywhere near as good as waze/google/maps. Apparently, there is an ID8 fix already out for some vehicles, but it does not appear to be out for the G87. On the G42 forum, their issue is being fixed by update 03/2023.05. My G87 will not go beyond 03/2023.04 and it says it is up to date. Does anyone have any more information on this?? |

I'm assuming you are describing the bug from this thread

But thanks, and yes, this is the same issue I'm experiencing. EDIT: I guess that would be because I was searching in "General Topics" Last edited by RSVP-XCI; 07-10-2023 at 11:16 AM.. |

I haven’t had the problem either, in either iDrive 8 car. Seems random but somewhat widespread. I’m glad as I’m reluctant to get the software update and have to reBimmercode so soon. Excited for you to be able to give it the beans later today. |

I have this problem EVERY SINGLE TIME I get into the car. Nothing fixes it. Terribly annoying.

Haven't driven an ID8 yet, but I had the same issue with my previous Lincoln.
When an iPhone is connected to a car with GPS feature and using Carplay, it doesn't use the location found by its GPS, but that found by the car's GPS. This bug you are seeing is due to an inaccurate in-car GPS reading. When you are experiencing this issue, you can disconnect and check the built-in navigation. It should show the same off set. IOS doesn't allow forcing to use phone's GPS reading when using Carplay, which could have solved the problem. Not sure whether there is a fix from BMW. |

Just checked my settings and they are the same for Apple Maps, but Google and Waze don't have the widgets option, only "While using the app". Even still, not sure this should make a difference. I have the problem with all 3. The other day I tried driving to a place I hadn't been to using the onboard GPS. While the positioning remained accurate, it's directions just don't seem very good or clear, so I resorted to disconnecting from Carplay and popping a earbud in my ear and received directions like that. First world problem, yes, but when you're paying for a car like this, not being able to use this functionality is extremely disappointing.

03/2023.05 definitely fixes the bug, my G20 updated from 11/2022.xx to the new software last month and haven't had the issue since. Supposedly the official fix was to either wait for a software upgrade or they sent out instructions to service centers on how to manually fix the issue in late April without a software update.
