Heads up display sport mode.

On my M340 there was a setting where when you where in sport mode the heads up display changed to sport view as well. Now I know I can change the heads up to sport but I don’t want it like that all the time. I cannot for the life of me find this setting and I found nothing in the manual. I am going to be pissed if they removed it but it looks like another stupid annoyance of ID8.

You can configure the head up display in the displays menu or using the wheel on the right of the steering wheel.

No. there is a “sport” view for the heads up display. It shows the tach. I know I can activate this view anytime I want in the settings. However I don’t want that view all the time and I also don’t want to have to manually change to that view when I engage sport mode.

In my M340 when I changed to sport mode the heads up display automatically changed to the sport setting with the tach. And when I changed back to confront it changed back to normal.

There was a checkmark under settings for this option.

It doesn’t seem possible to have my M240 behave in the same manor. I cannot find this setting anywhere and engaging sport mode does not turn on the sport view in the tach.

I hope I explained myself better this time.

This has been the most frustrating thing with me dealing with iDrive 8. There’s a lot of nice features but they’ve also removed a lot of choice that we had before another example is no more split screen in native navigation. They gave us this massive display and the only view is one single map it’s idiotic.

I also for the life of me don’t understand why they don’t make the dash more configurable. The different modes are basically all the same. And the content choices are lacking.

On that note another thing I used to have and now can’t get in iDrive 8 is the map and the album art on the dash. Used to be able to have the map in the center and the album art on the right now that’s not possible since you can no longer have content anywhere but in the middle there is no option that gives you both of those items in a single dash view.

Love my car but iDrive 8 is a step backwards in many areas.

Hmmm, it does in my M2. But I have a Manual where the Tach actually matters.

You can put the M240i in full manual mode. It just uses the paddles rather than a gear stick.

If you don't mind a square window into the map, you can have the map widget and the album art widget on the screen at once in OS8 - it's how I have it all the time. There's room for another widget too - I use an analog clock. Most of the time, I find the cropped view of the map (it's still full-size, just cropped) is fine, and any time it isn't I just change to Map view which is still on an actual button. Hitting the Home button restores the widget view.

To clarify. I was talking about on the instrument cluster not the main display in the dash.on the main screen I use CarPlay 99% of the time.

Sadly it isnt an option in ID8, that was one of the first things I noticed when switching. With ID7 you could set it to switch the AUD to whichever mode your car was in, but now if you select the same mode it wont switch to the tac when put into sport mode.

It is so frustrating how many steps backwards ID8 took. There’s so many good things to it it could’ve been a home run, but BMW made so many stupid decisions.

The HUD does show the tachometer in Sports mode, but only when you’re revving hard
