There's nothing about driving the XM that gave me the vibe "if this loses 1000lbs it will be good". However driving the X3M when it came out i thought "if this loses 600lbs it will be great" and that's what came to fruition with the G80 M3. G90 M5 will be fighting an uphill battle.

you’d be surprised at how many cars get tested/trashed for days at homestead and no one knows.

With a tune the S63 will do the same. Hybrid just add complexity, and weight. It's all for emissions and complying with regulations. The whole idea behind the F90 was decreased weight, increased performance. Weighing less than the outgoing F10, while adding AWD. This is a fundamental step backwards. Look at the C63 AMG now... the future of M cars looks boring. Interior, boring, exterior BMW has an identity crisis. Put an M2 next to an M3 and you'd ask if they were both the same brand if it weren't for the badge. If I wanted electric torque, I'd just get a P100D.

ICE cars primarily work their asses off to become like EVs.
EGs: Lower center of gravity 50/50, 40/60 weight distribution (F/R) Faster throttle response Etc etc Their issue however is the extra weight that comes. And to make matters worse, we have Tesla as our beacon for EVs. They cannot compare to most legacy automakers in terms of handling and motorsport so they really should not be used to measure what EVs will be like when made to perform. Look more at the Taycans. ICE vehicles are getting heavier each iteration. My E63 was about 4700lbs for example right up there with the EVs |
