Probably been through at least a dozen times now. So far no noticeable issues, even up close.

I still look at all the black 6-figure cars going through with a raised eyebrow each time I’m there. And then they’ll wipe them down with the car wash supplied microfiber towels, which I only use on my wheels and engine bay. I take my own towels and leaf blower.

However, I can't bring myself to drive through in my BG, although I crave the convenience. Even my dealership has one of these modern car washes and my salesman told me he has a customer with an M4 that takes advantage of the free wash every Friday.

Just curious if any of you have used these in your BMW and found any reason not to return?
I have put my BG one through the local wash several times. They have a huge sign that says “Tesla safe” 😜so I know it’s good. I haven’t seen any I’ll effects however I am probably not the best person to ask. I would never pay for PPE or ceramic or any of that crap. I am very happy with the $11 special wash every morning.

I wonder what "Tesla safe" means? Are they known for a very thin clear coat?

I have no idea. I am sure it’s BS. I thought it was hysterical. I’ll take a picture next time I go.

I would love to hand wash my car every time.I have 3 kids under 5. I just don’t have the time. For me it comes down to the law of diminishing returns. I am lucky if I get time to wash my car at all.

If it has brushes, don’t do it. Even still they may use harsh chemicals. I hand wash our Z4 matte and Tesla metallic finishes, but we wash the wife’s alpine white x5 every weekend at a brush automatic wash and no issues. Unless you have PPF on the entire car (especially the hood and trunklid) those brush washes will leave swirls everywhere that you’ll have to wax and buffer out if you can.

I have a chap who hand washes my cars every month (sooner in the winter). Each car gets a ceramic coating when bought and top up every year.

They have thin paint but also a lot of the exterior plastic bits are held on with low quality double sided tape. We have a lot of Teslas come into my shop and they are by far the worst when it comes to build quality. Every week I see Tesla’s with ripped off defroster lines because the dealer tapes the temp tag to the back window. Never seen this on a single other car.
