M Compound Brakes

What is really the difference in these vs the regular brakes? Is everything the same, just different rotors and pads? It’s a no cost option so just curious. If just rotors and pads, would be easy to swap back and forth depending on needs or liking.

The option is to only change color of the caliper, nothing else.

The description says “M Compound brakes deliver sporty dynamics to your M. So if it’s just the caliper color, they certainly make it sound like something more than that.

Be that as it may, the option is merely a color change. The "m compound brakes" are standard equipment.

Correct, whether selecting red or blue (both M compound), same exact brake system and components. Only difference is the color of the calipers.

Okay thank you both. I think I’ll stick with blue since I feel it goes better with Brooklyn grey and the interior trim.

Calipers

When I took a front wheel off for the first time I was surprised at how huge the caliper is compared to the four-piston unit on my F82.

They are 6 piston. But yes, they are huge

And OMG are the stock pads so dusty. I thought everyone was maybe exaggerating, but nope. Immediate and constant brake dust.

Absolutely, the braking is excellent. And per Jackie, very resistant to fade, too!

And since I've experienced zero squeal, the ONLY gripe I've got is the dust.

Have I mentioned how much I love the front end dynamics of this car? I really do.

Agreed. I ordered a set of red stuffs. Also picked up bimmerlink so I can release the ebrake to do the change.

The wheels are a pain to clean too!

I bought a set of thin "christmas tree" style brushes just for them. Helps a lot.

I'll probably use up the OEM pads, but after that will switch to Carbotechs or EBCs.

I also use Adams wheel cleaner. I keep a gallon of it for my wheels. It really helps reduce the amount of touching I have to do to the wheels and reduce scratches.
