Expected. BMW is in a sweet spot with their business now.
MB garbage as expected. 0 recommended models, hilariously accurate. What caused Porsche to slide? |

If they combined the Mini sales with the BMW sales would they still be #1?

It's been quite the turnaround over the last decade for BMW. It's still funny how on some other car forums BMW is still lumped in with VAG and MB as unreliable.

Similar on the business side, here in the UK. FleetNews puts BMW as the top Fleet Manufacturer again, this year. Fleet Managers are a critical bunch... BMW must be doing something right.

I would take this with a grain of salt. Consumer reports also marks anything the consumer reports as confusing as a problem. People who do this also love giant screens that they don't know how to use. If you gotten any cars recently, you would know. Half of them don't even know the difference between Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and actual lights for driving at night if you are forced to turn on the lights.

It should be pointed out that this list is NOT simply reliability. This is a combination of reliability, owner satisfaction, and CR's own road test. Cumulatively between those 3 categories, BMW ranks #1.
There's a separate list for just reliability, in which BMW ranks 3rd behind Toyota and Lexus. (Mercedes is dead last on that list).

I.e. How can one compare the reliability of say a Corolla to an M3 lol? It just doesn't work as they will be driven differently... Also, Toyota is not known to ever push the edge in terms of tech... they were last to turbo tech...now even if very reliable, wtf wants to ride in an NA 4 banger these days? I'll take the more unreliable car unless I have 0 car about driving.

Irrelevant, cherry-picked comparison between a niche high performance car and one of highest volume automotive appliances in the world.
The report is aggregated. Peeling the onion by nitpicking it leaves you with nothing left at the end. |

Toyota's only 2 sports car are ironically not made by them... one has a BMW build and engine and the other is a Subaru. Toyota sells a ton of pickups... BMW doesn't even compete in that space. Toyota's highest volume models - Camry and Corolla ride on 15 year old NA drivetrains with 0 updates... so obviously that would tick up their reliability... except BMW doesn't make a single car on tech that old (nor a single car as slow as those at least in the USA) so how can they even be compared? The new turbo trucks i.e. new Tundra are not reliable at all. BMW has quite a few performance models, an entirely turbo fleet and just generally caters towards an entirely different market. I think you can compare Toyota to Honda, Mazda and perhaps Nissan... but BMW should be compared to Audi, Benz, MB and the like... it just fundamentally makes more sense. If you really want to show a true reliability comparison... then you would have to cherry pick something like a 330i vs a Camry... as they are the most mainstream sedans etc but not even sure that would offer much value overall seeing as how the crowd that buys these cars is entirely different.

Consumer reports "Green Choice"
"Green Choices reflect how many of a brand’s CR-tested vehicles earned the designation for being in the top 20 percent of vehicles with the cleanest emissions, according to the EPA." Makes me want to go shopping for Land Rovers. Congratulations to Porsche for winning this "Best Cars" round up. |

(And the Prius still runs great with a couple hundred thousand miles -- great car). ------- And, despite the posts above regarding Toyota and BMWs incomparable because they seek different customers, I am both a Toyota and a BMW customer. When I bought my BMW last year, I considered Toyotas, and when I buy my next car, I will be sure to look at what both Toyota and BMW are making. Very different companies, very different cars (except the Supra/Z4) -- for sure, but IMO they both do what they do well and that is what I respect about both of them. Awesome! I trust CR's reports, back when BMW's were rated unreliable and now.
I remembered some talking shit about how CR's reports were garbage when BMW's were rated garbage as well reliability wise. Can't have it both ways, LOL.

Glad I’m not the only one. I was thinking “wait when did CR become reputable again?” Confirmation bias is powerful. I do think BMW is pretty strong right now though
