Back Up Camera Failing Intermittedly

My backup camera on my M2 has given me an error on 3 different occasions in the last week and half. I put the car in reverse and when the parking screen pops up I get an error cannot display where the camera should be. Anyone else seen that? Was working fine for the first 8,000 miles.

That happened to me for the first time, a couple days ago. Only once, and the next time I started the car it worked fine.

I'll post if I see it again.

Mine doesn't seem to ever stay off. Makes it hard to diagnose. I haven't taken it in yet since I'm 100% positive it will work if I'm at a dealership.

This has happened to me a couple times in the past couple of weeks since I've gotten the break in service done. I wonder if it's a software thing or it'll be a recall for a connection.

I had a client who experienced a problem with the backup camera and then the iDrive display. He reset the iDrive system and that fixed it. At least for now. I think the process is to hold down the power button for 70 seconds. It will cycle through a few times during the process. I have done this to fix multiple iDrive problems.

I will give this a try and report back. Hopefully its all just software being touchy. Appreciate the advice

I went back and confirmed. Holding for 30 seconds is a reset. The screen will power off and on once. Continue holding the power button. It will turn off again and reboot. This will take a total of 70 seconds. You will not lose any data or settings.

I just had this happen to me yesterday and took a picture. I also had one random PDC (Parking Distance Control error) for one of the sensors, but turning it off and on seemed to fixed it. Thinking of bringing it up during my next oil change.

FWIW I have been seeing this in my I drive 8 G42 as well.

Have not tried a reset or anything... Used my mirrors and neck like a Luddite.

It's been a couple weeks now, and it hasn't occurred again for me. For now, I'll assume it was some errant SW update that got hotfixed quickly.

How's everyone else doing with this issue? Still seeing it?

Yes, it actually became a lot more common for me. It was like it worked the first time, then the second time (car is on the entire time) I tried to go into reverse it would show camera malfunction.

I ended up doing the reset like people suggested (holding the power down for 30 seconds and let the iDrive system restart) and no more issues.
