Not a single aftermarket rear part to better accommodate 4 tips ?

Hi all,

I've seen many cool pics of people changing the original trapezoidal tips to 4 round tips.

What i haven't seen at all is that the part of the black piano bumper where the tips go, is too tight for the 4 tips.

I would be expecting that some aftermarket option appears at some moment with an "squared" space like the M2 accomodates the 4 tips.

Anyone knows something about this? (saw lots of rear diffusers, but those are only the center part, not the side parts where the tips go)

It took me a second to figure out exactly what you were asking for, I think you're asking for a rear bumper with a rectangle shaped exhaust cut out?

I have not seen any for the m240 yet, you could try looking for OEM bumpers from other cars, but that's probably hard to figure out fitment.

Maybe you could see if you could cut into your stock bumper and square it up that way? You'd probably have to figure out if it's hollow and I'd imagine a DIY might not go so well.

I have the AliExpress quad tips due to the amount of praise received by the forum, I don't think the current cutouts are too bad. In a perfect world I'd have circular cutouts that are nearly flush with the quad tips like the F22 m240, but it is what it is. Whatever the case is I prefer having exhaust tips that are actually attached to my exhaust.

they are just single sheet plastic trims that can be pulled off the bumper, i reckon it would be easy to make replacements for a company but i doubt theres enough potential customers to warrent it.

I agree replacing the OEM trims with quad tips doesnt make the bumper trim look as OEM as it should, but think the positives outweigh the negatives myself too.

Yes i will try to attch some images to what i am referring to.

In fact some of the tips i saw installed are so close in the external tips that they are not even horizontal anymore. see the example.

I would pay some nice money for the exact same bumper but more squared so that we can easily fit quad tips without the problem of them touching / almost touching the plastic.

HOW IT LOOKS LIKE

HOW I MEANT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN AFTERMARKET BUMPER

The problem is illustrated right there ^
Mine sit nicely and follow the standard curve. If anything, it’s the inside edge that’s not right. Guess it depends on the tips /exhaust.

Brighten the black up a bit to see the gaps and added mine for comparison, yours seem much larger

Many thanks Cannockwolf,

Tried to reverse search the gray photo via google images but couldn't find it.

Could you please provide where you found that one (gray one) please cannockwolf ?

(my very own opinion)
Indeed the low one looks nice (looks like smaller size tips than the top one and that's why it looks much appealing to me than the top one which even though the tips are bigger, it looks too "aftermarket" to me because the distance to the bumper is too tight in some places.

Yeah they look exactly the same in those shots, it must have been the wide angle shot, as i tend to stand back and zoom in rather than go wide

Whoah cannockwolf

What a thread you have about the modifications done to your car....you've basically did any mod related to CF i know about + many others. Congrats LOOKS BRUTALLY GOOD.

thx for the other pics.

did the tips were fitted to as deep as possible or you left them a bit out on purpose?

I'm looking to leave them "flush" vertically to where the bumper ends.

Better to show an image:

That's why i am wondering if you were able to put it even deeper or they are as deep as possible (without having to cut anything)

Thx beforehand, i owe you a beer

Thanks im keeping the car minumum 10 yr so wet all in

you can move them in a lot more but i wanted the ///M to stand proud/level from the bumper, (see pent's pic about yours, his are flush) you have a lot of play with positioning and it will never be conveyed properly in a flat picture tbh, you need to see it in 3d (real life)

Yup. Notice many of our US brethren also have the tips sticking out and not all have the “M” annotated tips. I preferred the “stock” flush look. ETTO

I will take profit once more from your experience Pentland cannockwolf

1) How long each of you have been having those aliexpress tips?
2) How well are they "getting old"?

2a) I mean are the brilliant interior parts getting rusty and or yellow?
2b) The carbonfiber-like part is brilliant, is it peeling out somehow?

(any other consideration about the way they get old is very welcomed, i read some other threads back in the day people complaining about they getting old very quickly)

Finally, from your experience, i am considering picking the versions from same page in aliexpress that do not use bolts but some of "round clamps". Any opinion on that method for good or bad?

Thanks again in advance, i now owe 2 beers sirs.

Lol. Ask me again after a Scottish winter. That said, 4 months in and they are fine.
I’m not holding my breath for longevity. Given the price they are disposable.

I can’t comment on the “round” clamps other than to say the exhaust is not round.
As for the bolts, sturdy enough. I’ll bet I’ll be cursing when they’ve rusted on tho

Thanks guys for your answers.

As you say they are "so cheap" that why not trying them and see how they hold the time.

Thx again )))

Finally, cannockwolf & Pentland

Did you notice any change in the sound of the exhaust with the new tips?

Dont' get me wrong, i like the default M240i exhaust sound (ofc i'd prefer a stock M5 sound LOL) but i am not looking my exhaust to sound different at all, just a visually cosmetic change.

What about sound?

The tips only have an aesthetic effect.
