FIRST G87 IN THE 9S

9.8 @138 W/ 1.44 - 60 FOOT

First pass and only one revision so far. Can't wait to dial this thing in. Still have extra weight on the car to. Thanks to all those that came out. Unfortunately heavy dew led to terrible traction after this pass.

Wow, very impressive. How much more do you think is in the car without opening the engine?

Crazy. You’re running with the XDrive G80/2 cars. Any idea what the G8X RWD record is?

Nice! Amazing what these cars can do with what’s just basic mods for the most part.

Basic mods? That is a little more than basic mods.

I would imagine with some quality forged wheels, you would go quicker, help with the rotational mass.

Agreed, this was a rush job so those are planned to. but the rear brakes are already 20lbs lighter then oem each side.

fuck no...manual will barely touch 10s much less 9s....

I had a mt 135 that went 10s b4 but to go fast in a s58 manual car would take so much money and effort that I'm not willing to do again in a bmw....the mt is not designed to drag race even an ounce.

Damn that's a huge savings on brakes alone.

I think Steve Dinan said the manual just can’t handle as much torque as the auto which is why he only sells a stage 1 kit for the base G80/2 cars. Who knows how true that really is though. But if that’s the case I doubt we’ll see any seriously fast 6-speed cars unless someone is willing to dump cash in a transmission build over just checking the box for the zf8.

The GS6-53BZ transmission is specified to a maximum of 600Nm torque by ZF. Although BMW rates the S58s with the manual transmission at 550Nm, the actual stock measured values from a dyno perspective seem to be already hitting the 600Nm limit.

So does this mean even if you upgraded the clutch and were making 600Nm+ , you'd still be in danger of destroying the manual trans? Or would you simply have to limit the torque through a tune to sub 600NM regardless of HP
?

Torque limiting would help, but in a tuned car, BMW won’t be providing warranty for the transmission anyway, so reduced life before rebuild is more likely than anything failing catastrophically.
