Any thief would know it's a set up and just walk buy, probably a kid would try his luck without thinking.

I read another article that says people are leaving their car windows open so thieves don't break them. Also, those might not be the keys to the car.

Why would you leave such a rare car (one of just three Porsche 959 s prototype) parked like that. I guess only the owner knows.

Here's the other article.

If he wants to leave the window ajar then he could at least secure a Disklok steering lock on the car after turning the front wheels into the kerb. His insurance price would be reduced a little also as these are near on impossible to remove.

Italian trash lol. This movie is kind of a sleeper hit IMO. An older version of Point Break kinda sorta if you squint.

Why does it wear EU tags vs California plates unless it's visiting.

People will put foreign tags of origin on their cars. BB is Boeblingin (spelling isn’t right) which is a suburb of Stuttgart. Would be closer if the plate started with S. I’m not sure if there’s a Zuffenhausen specific tag.

On one article someone mentioned that there’s a California license plate in the rear window.

... since I am originally from that area ....Boeblingen (BB-) is not a suburb of Stuttgart unless you would consider Baltimore a suburb of DC (there is a bit of a rivalry between the cities, and you can guess where I am from )... Sindelfingen, which is right next to Boeblingen, is where most (at least all the good ones) Mercedes Benz cars are produced (as I am sure you know)....and yes, Zuffenhaussen does not have its own tag designation since it's a suburb of Stuttgart ;-)

You are absolutely correct, the more authentic tag would start with S-

I vividly remember in '86 or '87 a 959 passing me on the Autobahn, like I was standing still...lol pushing 180-190 km/h in my E30 316

I lived in Echterdingen for three years lol. I think maybe the vernacular might be a bit misconstrued but I would consider BB a suburb with it only being 10-15 miles from the center of Stuttgart. A lot of people wouldn’t consider Fairfax VA a suburb of DC either, but in effect it is.

My neighbor in Echterdingen worked at the MB factory and was able to get a new 190E 2.5-16 in Black. I was so envious as I could never afford a car like that at the time.

Touche...Fairfax is a better comparison than Baltimore and one can certainly think of it as a suburb. Yes, I remember the 190E 2.5-16 well, they were so fast back in the day. Certainly a good memory from the early days of German high-performance cars.

I drove a Passat wagon and a manual 528i while there. The BMW was definitely an Autobahn cruiser. I really enjoyed living in Germany but think it has changed quite a bit in 30 years. I also loved Switzerland and could see myself living there if I had the money.
