Proof your daily driver BMW can be an absolute riot without the M badge !
Add coilovers & helical diff to your BMW commuter and unlock the beast! M cars need not apply.
They said no drifting on the course, but it couldn't resist, the car really wanted to I entered the event to test newly installed coilovers and dial in the damping for best car control. With adjustments in the right direction, the car began to rotate more naturally and smoothly when steering into each turn. Car felt faster and more agile than ever. Then it was begging to drift every corner...so I just. Had to. Let it. Go. If this isn't proof, I don't know what is! A good set of coilovers is key. Before heavy understeer was a problem...either push in the corner or snap on you type of steering. Try to drift, and it didn't like it - you had to work hard and balance on a fine line. This BMW drives sooo good now, handles like a boss while retaining excellent road manners and daily comforts N54 torsen grocery getter ftw! Not too many mods needed. Car setup listed in video. Enjoy the joyride! . Last edited by 1spirit; 10-11-2023 at 05:35 PM.. Reason: added to description |

Oversteer is more fun than understeer, but 99% of people don't know how to use the throttle, so that's why 99% of cars are set-up to understeer from the factory. Nice time you had there.

Drifting through the full course added about 14 seconds to a regular run of around 62-63 sec

For sure! Such a bummer for those of us who understand throttle control, but yeah safety first. Oversteer ftw haha |

Back in the day you just checked the box for a winter package or in super strippers just the LSD box.
You want an LSD BMW forces you to purchase an M now for fun. Lame. So glad aftermarket support is alive and well. Fun video. |

Odd, Owned a 328iS and it had a factory LSD in E34's had them. Thought they were phased out with advent of traction control nannies. E46's and so on. G20 is far too new for me and the fact they added them back is great how much is that option now or it has to be the M340 not a run of the mile 320 or 330?

Even F30s started having the factory lsd option (m performance option), althought rare I believe. But I agree, happy that they are bringing it back although I have no interest in newer BMWs.

Out of the factory, this car is probably the most understeering machine BMW ever made. The stock suspension is horrendous for any kind of enthusiastic driving. It needs an LSD dreadfully! But BMW would be afraid that including it will hurt their M-car sales. At the time this was a car much lighter and smaller than the e92 M3. I assume this car had to be “handicapped” You start an interesting discussion w/tdott & alex. I don’t know much about this particular history so learning from you guys Likewise, it’s been a while for me. The e92 M3 and the 1M are the last BMW’s I really liked |
