Sigh.........
So, I ordered an M2 in early July. Dealer told me the wait might be up to 12 months. When the 2024 model year price list came out I contacted him and said let's use Frozen Portimao instead of Zandvoort (which was on the original build). He confirmed.
There was silence since then. Didn't bother me because I figured there were months to go before the build started. Yesterday, I got an e-mail from an unknown person at the dealership saying "Congratulations, your M2 has just landed." I am a bit pointy headed, and so I had no idea what he was trying to tell me. Today I finally reached the sales manager who basically said "Ooooops." My original salesguy changed jobs, they never changed the build, and in the transition kinda forgot to keep me informed before the build started. The last 7 bimmers I've bought there has always been a step where I was asked to review the build just before the car entered production. Not this time. The short of it is that the dealer now has a Zandvoort Blue M2 in his showroom. I'm going to re-order with the Frozen Portimao. OK, I know I'm being pointy headed again. I like the Zandvoort, and was obviously willing to own it at one time. But I love the Frozen Portimao on the M2. And since I already drive a 2018 M2, which I love, a few extra months is not at all painful. Maybe it's just me, but I'd think that making sure orders were correct would be a high priority. |

Yeah. Especially if there's a transition. They probably should have double-checked every order that salesman #1 had in the works before turning them over to salesman #2. And "verify" probably ought to mean a courtesy call to the clients.
"Hi! I'm salesman #2. Salesman #1 has taken another position in our dealership. I just wanted to introduce myself; I'll be handling your build and delivery. Here's the status of your order. And, if you have a moment, can we go over your order to make sure that all the information I have is correct?" |

You should have received an updated VIR when you made the color change. Probabky ahould have also been staying in touch so you knew when your allocation was received (and received production number and subsequent VIN) so you could track the build and delivery.
Tough lesson learned. |

This is why you always check the build online. Thank you for being a case study for this forum.

My CA didn't call me either. The only reason I even knew I finally had an allocation was because my friend ordered one a month after me from the same dealer, and his CA called him to let him know that they got allocations.
It wasn't until a week later that I finally got a hold of my CA to ask, and they told me I had an allocation also. At that point, I was able to update my config. But because of the timing, or because they unintentionally entered them out of order, my friend ended up getting an earlier production number, and his M2 arrived at the dealer last week, while mine is still at least a month away from getting to the dealer while waiting in Mexico for a transport. |

Sounds like a crappy CA. Most here stayed on top of things so even if the CA was attentive, some beat them to it. A lot of different factors effect production and ultimate delivery time. Obviously the buckets but even paint color could have had a difference on timing. |

So they never even gave you a production number? Honestly that's just a poor job by the dealership...the CA and SM.
You should demand money off on the new one for the extended wait. |

We both started with the same build week. The only difference in config was the color and auto vs manual. His build got pulled forward a week, so I'm guessing they had space in the schedule and just pulled forward by production number. It just so happened, after his production, his car was on a ship quickly, so he was really fortunate on timing. His prodDate ended up 9/19 and mine was 9/26. The ship was loaded on 9/24. And there hasn't been another one since then. |

Wouldn't really go by the actual number. Being they were batch building based on colors, at least at one point, color cound have made a difference. |

That seems reasonable. I'll chalk it up to my friend being very lucky. And no better person to receive it, so all well.
