Ok, so I have posted previously about a sharp metalic sound when I turn hard/quick to the right. After driving with the BMW tech he says its the tire squealing and is normal. He looked under the car and gave me a video that showed the front end components. He said nothing looked odd upfront.
What could be causing my right tire to squeal? Never does this when I turn left. Also, does it when parked if I turn the steering wheel sharp like in my parking space. Only on right side. I took a video while parked and it does seem to be the tire making the noise. The air pressure is correct. Mileage is under 4k. ZTK wheel package. |

I for one am confused- it is a sharp, metallic sound, or like a squealing tire? For cars with hydraulic power steering, sometimes the drive belt would squeal similar to a tire at full lock, but this car has electric steering.
Does it make the noise with the car sitting still with the wheel at full lock, or only when it is moving? Do you see anywhere the tire might be touching the bodywork at full lock? |

So still trying to debug this tire squeal. Here’s a link to a recording of the sound.
Lmk your thoughts? Only does it on right front. Tire pressure about 39lbs. Car doesn’t pull to one side or vibrate. Strange. https://youtube.com/shorts/po9JrEbX_...-PVjeaFjOi6HtP |

ok, if you are only talking about it doing it stationary as in the utube you posted it's totally normal, that is simply a "squeaking" sound as the rubber compound is moved across the smooth pavement, it is squeaking as the grip is released under pressure. If you are talking about it happening when driving and turning that is a totally different thing and we would need more info, speeds, surface, cornering g's etc.

From your YouTube short video it definitely sounds like tire squeaking when the wheel is being turned while your car is stationary. But, the question remains as to why this sound is coming only from the right side of the car?
You also state that you have the same squeaking sound from only the right side while the car is moving. Logically, that is different because you are not forcing the tire tread to move side to side without significant forward motion. I think you need to find the exact location of the sound, which may not be too difficult. I have often used the hollow cardboard center from a roll of paper towels to isolate sounds. After ensuring the your car is in "Park" with the parking brake engaged, you would need a second person to turn the steering wheel while you aim the hollow cardboard roll at different points under the car, while, of course, your ear is against the other end. I'm wondering if this sound is being caused by one of the suspension bushings on the right front? A last resort would be to put the car on front (only) both sides jack stands so that the entire front of the car is just high enough to let the tires get free from the ground surface. Then start it and turn the steering wheel in the same manner which has produced the squeaking sound. If you have access to a lift this would be a lot easier! Good luck! |

Just today I heard a similar sound from my M2 front. I was in the garage and usually since I back in I don't turn the wheels until I'm out of the garage. But today for some reason I turned the steering and enough I heard the noise. Sounded like it was coming from the left front but both front tires could have been making the noise but since I'm on the left side of the car I'd hear the left front tire better than the right front.
It is the smooth pavement. In your case the noise could be just from one tire if the two front tires are on different surfaces. My garage floor is not painted but it is very smooth compared to just even the concrete drive. |
