My dad and I both have G20 330i cars but unfortunately no serial VIN. I wonder what the chances of that were...

It’s not too much of a long shot as some dealers have been shipped sequential vins and if the cars stay local, it’s not hard to end up close.

VINs are assigned before any actual building of a vehicle begins. Status 150 is "production started" but the actual construction of the car won't start for weeks after.

I have a special edition 1984 BMW R100RS of which only 250 were made. I found out this summer that a friend has the VIN right in front of mine though mine is officially listed as a February production bike and his is March. I said that meant mine was quicker from the start. He said his got more good stuff so it took at least a day longer to build. The good news is they are both in fine shape 40-years after they left Spandau.
