825M v. 930 Wheels Weights ... The Bare Truth

Swapping the cast 930s out for forged 825Ms (Which came in bi-color, and I had powdercoated black).

Couple of observations:

First, the 930s are identical copies of the 825s. I knew they were close, but not identical.

Second, the weight difference is pretty shocking. You can tell as soon as you lift them.

Third, this may be an interim step. Might go with even lighter wheels down the road, but I like the look of the 825Ms.

First two pictures are the 930s on the scale (in lbs).

Second two pictures are the 825Ms.

It's interesting that the 930s are heavier than earlier reported, AND that the ratio of increased weight is a bit higher for the 20 inch 930s.

Love the weight savings but still has the spoke design that is a PITA to clean since it's identical to the oem lol.

Nice comparison and thank you for posting. I know rotational mass is the best place to remove, but I can’t tell how good that is from a $/lb perspective. Can you feel the difference?

AZG: Yes, definitely a pain, but I ceramic coated them before install!

Matty: I added a KW HAS kit first, and noticed an immediate improvement in steering feel and the car felt much more planted. The wheel swap was less dramatic, but definitely feels more nimble. My next step is installing a set of Dinan monoballs!

The car was already fabulous stock. Now it is more fabulous!

I feel like you have to save 7-10lbs per wheel in order to really feel it. At least that was my experience with my previous wheel swaps. Apex has wheels as low as 19lbs in the front.

Apex makes great wheels!

I have them on my e36 M3.

Hopefully they come out with additional designs soon.

100 times this. I loved the light weight VS-5RS I had on my G42 (still for sale btw), but I think for the M2 something slightly more substantial looking would be nice. I would be all over the EC7-RS if it fit.

Thanks for doing this. I really like the way the stock 930s look so getting the same wheel with a bit less weight is at least a nice option to have. I believe the 825s are flow formed and not truly forged, you can for sure go with a true forged wheel and save some more weight but in terms of design, I think BMW really knocked this one out of the ballpark.
They are a PITA to clean though and I love having clean cars.
