I am holding onto my desire to keep driving a manual transmission for now.

I just put in an order for an M2 6MT. It will be my 4th car that I've owned, and they've all been manual transmissions.

I just like it.

I'm not as technical as many on this forum, nor am I as great a driver as most on here either, likely. But I just like shifting.

But as another person said earlier, the options are getting fewer each year, especially if you're filtering for certain characteristics on top of the transmission.

For example, my current car is a 2016 F30 340i. When I was looking at my options at the time, I was filtering for 2 things: manual transmission, and more power than my car at the time (2006 Acura TSX w/ 200 hp). My wife added that it needed to be 4 doors. There were not a lot of choices that fit all three.

This time around, I didn't really need 4 doors. Although that gave me a few more options to begin with, there were many I wasn't really interested in purchasing.

With this trend, when I'm ready for my NEXT car (maybe 8-10 years or so?), how many choices for manual transmission cars will there be? Or will be already be EV heavy by then?

In 10 years, more than a full car generation? The H87 or whatever it is called will be nearing it's own LCI. Every other carmaker (except Nissan lol) will have also progressed another generation.

Global warming effects will be worse, and the EU can be expected to have even more motive to pass ever more restrictive laws on ICE cars.

Probably there won't yet be a massive rollout of pure EVs, but but I expect to see mass rollout of hybrids. Every major automaker's roadmaps already point this way, including BMW.

The problem for MT drivers is that hybrid drivetrains don't pair with MTs either. So we still are going to lose out.

Porsche will still cater to the MT niche, probably. The Caterhams will still exist. But outside of that, I don't think we'll see many options.

That's what I'm afraid of!
