front radiator and cooler taking a beating
After only 500 miles, radiator and cooler are taking a beating without any mesh protection. Is there anything out there we can retrofit like the mishimoto skid plate?

I have them installed now too, along with the oil cooler guard. I will have a DIY up soon for the install, absolutely worth it!
For the folks that call them 'expensive chicken wire'.. yeah no.. I saw a zunsport screen take a deer strike and survive. They are excellent.

As for how delicate they seem I'm just a little dissapointed to see mention of more than one Mishimoto skid plate arrive with the tabs broken. $450 for just the oil cooler guard that has trouble surviving the shipping? That raises some serious questions for me if I'll be looking to upgrade my Zunsport oil cooler gaurd to a Mishimoto. |

I ended up ordering center and side grilles from https://www.stradaledesign.com/g87-m2
Cheaper than the ZunSport, and appear to attach better. I mentioned above that I installed the ZunSport screens on my wife's X3MC. Because the hooks face the front, they're very easy to push in. I'm probably going to remove them and figure out how to add some double-sided tape to make them more secure. I did order the ZunSport oil cooler grille, however, and it should arrive this week.

At least for me, they are not and are secure in place. The screens on my G87 is the third car with Zunsport screens, and work great and look awesome.

That was not a large piece of debris and the zunsport would have no issues altering that path or outright stopping it. If one needs protection from large debris at speed, another vehicle will be a better choice. For 99.9% of drivers the Zunsport and others will suffice rather well. |

I have no doubt that the Zunsport grill would have stopped my $1600 rock. The mesh is tight enough and it feels sturdy enough.
Could something potentially go through still? Sure. If you have this concern, then go ahead and get the Mishimoto auxiliary radiators with the sturdy mesh grill attachment. That should stop almost anything. If I ever pop another radiator I will definitely replace with Mishimoto. |

The zunsport units mounts from the front and has the gloss black bars of the inlet to “hold” it against going into the opening and hitting the radiators… right?
The stradale design ones are behind the gloss black bars and can really be pushed into the radiator if hit too hard from the front.

Yes it’s exposed and probably not the best thought behind it (although I personally love the design, very tuner-esque) but how do we know long term effects of the guards? Sure, it’s only tiny plastic, but it still restricts airflow to some degree. Just my personal opinion. |

BMW didn't install grilles 1. To cut costs & 2. As evidenced by the other thread, they're not going to cover the damage under warranty. So no reason to design & include grilles.
