Great info ramparts. I noticed something similar on www.partslink24.com. But they only show June build info for G42/G87 so wasn't able to get a solid read on the status.

I haven't got ETK running (I assumes thats where your screenshot comes from).

Does ETK allow you to see PN's for VINS that have not yet been delivered, only built (I know bimmer.work doesnt show them)? If so, I think there are a couple of VINS in the G42 "order status and timeline thread" that are July/Aug builds (hopefully people wouldn't mind them being cross checked). I'd give you mine to check, but I don't have it yet (Aug 21st build was the schedule advised).

Yes it does. And can also check head unit activation.

I stop think the most likely scenario is older cars get a slightly different version of 8.5 .

For example , M cars get their own without quick select now, maybe there’s a 3rd version that is standard 8.5 without quick select ( this is me theorising )

One interesting thing i've found:

The variant of the Head Unit High used by post July 2023 bulids, is the same as these other models post July.

More interestingly, it's the one used by the X7 LCI earlier in the year.

This *MIGHT* mean it's the MGU21+/A variant, that potentially is different /faster hardware.

Sadly, impossible to know for sure at the moment until there's vehicles in peoples hands. But i'd be going from a 10% change of it being upgradable to 20% chance in my mind.

My G42 M240 has a build date of 23rd of Aug 2023 and is currently status 160 (handover to sales).

A kind member here ran my VIN through ETK and the report back was:

“Head Unit is showing as Head Unit High 4 (MGU21), but doesn't specify if its an MGU21/21H or 21/A. Part Number is 65 12 5B32389”.

Really interesting thank you! I have my MY24 G87 now here on hand with iD8, and was an August build. I don't think I have the ability to check what HU I have installed?

Hi to all,

I am a G87 M2 owner 3 months now, production month 05/2023.

I am happy with the idrive 8, except IMPO the quick buttons on the bottom.

Is there a way to add only this option in the idrive 8?

Or better is there a way to add any quick button in the screen except the Home and Climate that already exist.

BTW the absence of a media button is a huge mistake, really don't the test before producing?

Any advise would be highly appreciated.

OK...so lets clarify this... Will 24 M2 get 8.5? My was built in Sept I think Delivered Nov 30. I could upgrade the HU to latest Istep with my PC but Im scared to now that they use secure coding and programming. Have to have the token or certificate of your car on the PC and its only achievable thru BMWs system. Standalone ISTA wont work or will not have the token needed to program the modules. Some will program, some wont. So if anyone has AOS, I think you could get the token and save it locally so for future updates, you dont need AOS. I think its just the first time.

does the button MEDIA in the idrive controller has to do anything with the iDrive version?

I want the video options. I can’t believe they skipped it in id8 but 8.5 and 9 and 7 have some kind of mirroring or video watching. Maybe they will push it out as an update to id8? Possible?
